Congrats Greg!! (aka "gunshotwound")

Greg got his CMRA Prov-Nov license Friday and is slated to ride his first race Sunday!

Good job in the mock race too, you showed a bunch of those "young" guys how it's done!

How exectly does the "mock race" go down??? Grid up?? How many laps?? Passing like the real deal, etc.?????

One warmup lap, grid up, 4 lap "race", cool down lap and done.

In the mock race, we put instructors out to pass and be passed by the folks getting their license that day. Passing is realistic and can be close quarters to see how the students react and make sure they don't get spooked. During the day before the mock race (which is at the end of the day), the students ride in the same group and we do the same thing with them during the day to get them used to race conditions- rules are akin to the "A" group rules.

Instructors start from the back of the pack- yesterday there were 31 folks getting their license , it took a while to get through all that traffic!

The mock race also gauges how well they know the rules, flags, and race etiquette.

The object is just to complete the race without crashing- if they crash, they fail and have to take it again Other things fail them too, like the written test or if they have poor riding ability.

It certainly is!

But it also very good practice. The students get to practice gridding up, watching the starter, see a flag dropped and work on launching a bike in a semi competitive environment BEFORE they take an actual grid!

Many new riders have stated that it helped ease the tension during the first race, having already gone through the procedure.

Thanks Tom, it is all your fault. You talked me into it. It was a blast! Raced two Sunday and didn't crash.

One of the best ever.

I cant really explain it.

I was soo happy I finished and didnt wreck and didnt come in last place

I was shouting and screaming inside my helmet on my cool down lap all the way into the pits....
