Shark RSR2 first impressions

I ordered a Shark RSR2 after finding a link on here for a few of them on clearance, $200 instead of $629.

I had been wanting a high end helmet for a while, and been holding out for a deal like this.

I got the Duhamel model:
Shark RSR2 first impressions

I have a Scorpion EX1000 and Icon Mainframe to compare to.

THe graphics look great, the white actually has metal flake in it, so in person it looks better than the picture to me. The graphics are not as slick as say a Suomy, or some others, but I would say they are better than average.

The face shield is THICK. They said 3mm, but it feels extremely solid compared to the Icon or Scorpion. It doe snot fog from my breath even tonight when its a little bit cooler, and I am sitting still wearing it and huffing away. Visibility is great through it, though the shape of the face opening is a little bit narrower than the Scorpion, which is also a little bit narrower than the Icon.

As far as fit, I have an XL, and it fits great, the padding inside fits snugly without any pressure points (on the 2 short rides and wearing it around the house at least), while the Icon and Scorpion both have a pressure point high on my forehead. The material on the inside is nice, and to me comparable to the Arai's that I have tried on.

Wind noise is a lot less than expected. Its not as harsh sounding as the other helmets, and it feels very stable at speed. The Icon always felt like it was making my head wobble, while the Scorpion only did that when I looked back. Airflow seems adequate as well, I had to shut both front vents tonight as I was getting too cold inside the helmet.

The helmet feels very solid, and just picking it up it feels much lighter than the other helmets. The Scorpion is a pig anyway with all its extra features. The Icon is nearly as heavy as the Scoprion for the sheer fact it is an Icon. Supposedly the Shark is half a lb lighter than similar Shoe, Aria and Suomy helmets. It is NOT Snell rated, but is DOT and ECE rated.

This is the helmet I should have bought in the first place. Instead I have 3 helmets and $500 spent on them.

I didn't know that. I always figured they were comparable to the second tier helmets, but after reading some reviews it looks like they're a premium helmet.

They are top notch, just more popular in Europe than U.S., probably cause there are not many distributors

afaik the RSR2 and the RSX are their higher end models. the RSI and others that are more commonly seen in shops at under $200 are not as good. Hoping for not too terrible weather tomorrow so I can go ride again and wear my new helmet!

I got a GREAT deal on my Shark lid from 2 Wheel Toyz a few months back. I love that lid. Got the white/blue/red Alien!!!! Might be picking up another to use as my track lid.
Shark is becoming more and more popular in the 'States now. From what I hear it is one of the prefered lids in Europe

Sorry to highjack the thread, but I was thinking about picking one of these up. Any thoughts on this helmet?

I've still got about 10 of these Shark helmets at the shop marked down to at or below my cost on them and they are all the higher end of the line. Many models like the CORSER and the DUHAMEL and the SHURIKEN are still available at closeout prices. Come in and check it out.
