ticking sound :-(

I just started hearing this ticking sound coming from my bike. It sounds like it's coming from the direction of the header/radiator area.

I put new heads on my bike last week and haven't ridden TOO TOO much with them on, maybe 200 miles or so. Could it be them getting broken in and loosened up a bit creating a small leak? If so should I just go back in and tighten them again?

Thanks guys.

I think he meant to say headers. Heads are what the exhaust headers attch too. Did u put new exhuast gaskets on the new headers? U should check what u did to cause the tick. Probably just an exhaust leakp

All Yamahas tick.
Has a slight sound a tapping lifter? If so then yep. You should feel anything tho, no odd vibrations, shakes, nothing like that. Just a faint tapping

I honestly dont know the correct answer on what it is, rumors of course go from the Fuel Injectors, to the lifters, to piston slap...

Probably an exhaust leak.
Try tightening the exhaust stud bolts a little at a time, make sure they're equal.

Your bike is broken. I'll buy it off you for a drastically reduced price. I offer $500.

(It is just the Yamaha tick. They all do this because their engines are tha bomb!)

lol thanks guys.

I tightened up my headers again, they were significantly looser than when I originally tightened them.

Also, my termignoni slipon does not fit real tight to the end of the headers....

MSJ says their headers are made to fit the stock slip on so anything that will fit on the stock headers should be a match for the MJS headers....but there is a SLIGHT leak where they connect, not a big one.....
is that ok?

Yup, even a big leak that far down the pipe has no impact on performance or reliablility. A leak at the header, however, can cause some issues if left alone.

Yeah, that's what I though. I'm definitely not a guru, so I just wanted to make sure

Thanks again.
