2nd Semi Annual Iron Butts Tour of the Hills

Preplanning stage...

Weekend of April 24-27

Leaving W Houston early Fri, arriving San Antonio that night, mexican food for dinner

Sat is a tour of the Sisters, BBQ on the porch and jacuzzi

Sun is back to Houston

Not a noob friendly ride, plan on around 1000 miles in 3 days. Pace will be brisk but with an eye on keeping it sane and coming home in one piece..

Sights will include Austin outskirts, Lime Creek, Lake Travis, Marble Falls, 1431, the 3 Sisters, Stonehenge II, Frio bike stop, YO cafe for breakfast, Orsaks, Devils Backbone and some of the best roads in the Hill Country of Texas... may even be occasional stops for pictures.. maybe

Lodging will be avail for 6 (if you don't mind floors, couchs and inflatable mattress), BBQ is covered for Sat night

More news as it develops.......

I may have to actually get some pins or t-shirts made.....

And some monkey powder... although it wasn't "that" bad a couple years ago.

I'll start a list in a couple weeks... just getting it out there for those that need to plan ahead.

For those wondering, plan to have your bike and tires, chain, ready to go.

What you can carry is what you'll have to wear/live in for 3 days (please, for the rest of us, bring some deodorant anyhow!! )

We'll be able to leave most of the stuff for the days ride on the Sisters, but for the rest it will be with you. Soft luggage and tank bags work very well for this. Back packs get real old after a couple days...

We'll stop at least every hour, for breakfast, lunch and dinner or a stretch, pee break, more or less...

I prefer everyone to be legal... I have found when you do get stopped, if everyone is legit it saves a lot of hassles...

Not saying we will get popped, but riding like this has that chance...

This will not be a 3 day Isle of Man type ride, but it will be FUN with a capital F.

Day 1, 280 miles give or take
Day 2, 340 miles
Day 3, 260 or so

Last time I ended up with 960 but we didn't do the Austin leg

This is from West Houston, add more to get to where you are coming from....

Sat, some of the sights:

I did it the last time with no issues on some Pilot Powers... but we went back and they didn't make the Sisters loop....

It is imperative that you make sure your bike is ready to go. I have tire plugs, compressor, water weld and a bunch of other stuff, but a major breakdown will end your trip. Also messes it up for everyone else.

I'll have a truck and trailer on call, but depending where you are at it will take a while to get there....

Some sort of monkey powder is highly recommended. I find long miles don't bother me unless it is droning down the interstate... and there ain't much interstate on these routes....

You do need newer tires on trip to sisters, the roads out there do wear tires out pretty quick, ask Silverbird

Remember, the first 6 peeps once I start the list will have dibs on the free sleeping space, after that you'll have to line up a room. 4 of those spots are already spoken for, from prior rides... so just an FYI.

We'll be staying in N. San Antonio, so take a gander at the area to see whats available. We got a cabin with 6 beds in Kerrville last trip and split it up, but thats a ways away from Saturday nights BBQ...
