blue tape

Probably a stupid question but why do ppl on the track tape up their lights if they don't have race plastics? protect them? keep the light out of ppls eyes/ sun reflecting? to look cool?

1. Lights need to be covered up on the track
2. Keep the pieces together in a crash
3. Protect them from gravel
4.

pretty much a rule....it helps to disconnect them as well.

most run the blue tape because the adhesive comes off easily without leaving residue behind.

As dbuck said above, it's generally a rule for tech-in. Check with the company website for who you'll be doing the trackday with and they should have a list of items they want to see done to the bike before riding your first session.

It is used to keep it from shattering on the track and to cover up the brake light cause it will distract people to see a blinking light when your elbow is down in a corner.... even the slightest distraction is bad!
