And yes, just looking for a baseline.

I think it's irrellevant what other peoples time are.
Putting down a good time does not necessarily mean they are gonna be ahead of the pack come race day.
Theres soo much more that goes into making a good racer than just being fast.

a HUGE +1 to tom's comment.

racing involves more than lap times......sometimes running slower laps gets you positions ahead......lap times come in when you are ahead of the pack or free of traffic.

don't worry brandt, you will not be in the back of the pack.

typically speaking, lap times USUALLY drop down during a race....but given some circumstances....you can be doing faster laps during practice/trackday than a race.

I was at the last TTD at GSS last year. The fast and intermediate groups were lumped together.

None of my times were on a lap timer, but I timed them with a stopwatch off the video I took, so I know they are within a half second.

Fastest time of the day was Dustin and Kris, both running 1:00 - 1:01's on a late model 600 race prepped and a 2004 stock 750 (both gixxers). Lap times may have dipped below 1:00, but only for a lap at a time. Most laps were around 1:01- 1:02. Kris hadn't ridden a street bike in a year and a half and my 750 he was riding had very warped rotors, street bridgestones, stock suspension... It was also a cooler day so I could see mid 50's for these guys with proper tires and temps.

I ran 1:07 - 1:10's after a year of not riding track. I took it easy on the straights, under 13k rpm's, but I was only getting lapped by the KTM motards and a couple of other bikes, like an SV 650. I'd say I was mid pack in terms of speed. The faster guys were lumped around 1:04-1:05.

So I'd say 0:55 - 1:05 expert, 1:05 - 1:20 intermediate, 1:20+ novice as a guess for average lap times at GSS.

I've heard of lap times in the high 40's (Larry Myers), but haven't seen any proof. Watching Kris run 1:01's and I think it it is very unlikely that 12 seconds (20%) can be shaved off his lap times, regardless of conditions and set-up. Kris is no slouch...he had the MSRH 600 lap record for a while on the old configuration, countercockwise, on his R6 with a 1:40..lap timer verified.

I agree with most of the comments. 1:05 or lower would put you amongst the faster advanced people. I would be AMAZED if Alonzo wasn't riding consistantly below 1:00 (i know what my lap times were when he got by me)
