How does that 'scoop American honour'? Isn't Stoner from Australia?

I'm not sure of the rules and regs. of motogp, but in other forms of racing that would be an illegal pass, because he went of the track, not to mention that he almost took Stoner out on recovery, so i say BOOO, but then again I'm a Stoner fan.

and as far as that moto-vational pic, stoner closed the door ( he's on the curb), so rossi just when through the wall instead. lol

It was legal, he didn't gain an advantage by cutting the track. Rossi was already in front when that happened.

Actually in that race I believe they were twenty-something seconds in front of Vermeulen who was in 3rd...that's why Stoner had time to pick his bike up and STILL finish second amlost 7 seconds ahead of Vermeulen...

So how did that particular maneuver scoop American honor? If the reason Rossi won was what scooped American honor, then him winning period should have been what did it - not that particular pass. Rossi won because Stoner wrecked...It's not like Rossi made some miraculous pass around Hayden. , an American didn't win last year at Laguna - does that mean Stoner 'scooped American honour'? I could see the title's relevance if Rossi had taken the win from Hayden or Edwards, but not Stoner...

honour as in trophy
not honour as in code of honour

Quote:
It probably doesn’t rank too highly on Casey Stoner’s list of magic manoeuvres from 2008, but Valentino Rossi’s overtaking move on the Australian at the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix has been continually cited as the best of its kind from the past season.

The hard pass on the descending ‘Corkscrew’ section of the Laguna Seca track was brought back into the spotlight this week with the announcement of the Third Annual SPEED Performance Awards winners, taking one of the nine trophies on offer in the category of ‘Best Move’. Rossi received the most votes from nearly 120,000 fans to take the honour

I still love, yes I am using the word love, watching them go down the hill from above the corkscrew. That is one of my favorite shots in MotoGP. Rossi dusts the inside corner, freak amazing riding by both guys. Doesn't get much better!
