Edwards on Toseland: We don't talk anymore

Quote:
Colin Edwards has publicly revealed that he and Tech 3 Yamaha team-mate James Toseland 'don't talk anymore' and that he was satisfied to comprehensively out pace him during testing at Sepang.

The pair fell out following the conclusion of the 2008 MotoGP season after Toseland was granted Edwards' crew chief Gary Reynders, an incident that Edwards reveals has stopped them from working together.

Writing on his latest blog for the Indianapolis Grand Prix website, Edwards went on to add that he was pleased to have ended the pre-season test in Malaysia two and a half seconds quicker than Toseland, who otherwise spent the three days towards the back of the field following a 125mph accident on the first day of action.

“He's not on the Christmas card list whatsoever,” he said. “It's funny. We don't talk anymore after this little incident. We looked good in front of him, (Toseland) being 2.5 seconds off the pace at Sepang.

“That was good times. You should hear some of the comments being made. He got the crew chief he wanted. That was going to make all the difference in the world, and we just sit and laugh. We have a good time.

Claiming that he had to stroke Reynders' ego throughout last year, Edwards goes on to say that he is even happier with Toseland's former crew chief, Guy Coulon.

“I thought I was pretty happy last year with my crew chief (Gary Reynders). They co-conspired to kind of stick it in my (rear), if you want to say that. They decided for my crew chief to go to James, and James decided that my crew chief was better than his.

“His crew chief last year, I'm with now, and he's 'frickin' awesome. His name is Guy, Guy Coulon, and he's awesome. He's got so much experience. I think he's been doing it since early 70s.

“I'm really happy. I'm a lot happier with my crew chief. It's just so relaxed. I don't have to stroke (my crew chief's) ego like I did last year. Everybody's just so relaxed, just happy to be riding motorcycles. It seems to have worked out really well for our side of the team, with my crew chief and with me. I think everybody is happier than we were last year.”
shame, I like both of them

Surprising. Maybe they could borrow a wall from Honda.

This is actually dissapointing. While Edwards hasn't exactly won any races (0 in MotoGP) his experience for a former WSBK Champion like Toesland could be invaluable. In essence James is following the same path as Edwards as far as winning WSBK and jumping to the premire class.

I thought last season they were gelling quite nicely, and hopefully they could become friends more than rivals.

In most interviews I have seen Edwards give credit where it is due. If you watch "The Doctor, Tornado, and Kentucky Kid' CE actually gives Rossi his highest praise. Dubbing him the Greatest Of All Time and wishing he had as much tallent as the doctor. Keeping this in mind, I guess Toesland is more the problem.

But this is racing and while it hasn't escallated to F1 undercutting, yet, it is only a matter of time before most teammates become rivals.

You have to realize coming into MotoGP, Toseland has made no friends.. in his very first few races he's touched, dirty passed (if there is a thing like that) while hitting bikes, guys like Rossi, Lorenzo (both the factory riders).

Toseland also happens to have an Edwards like "I don't care... I just want to ride" attitude. One Edwards is good for MotoGP and a team, that personality would make great for a wing man, but two Edwards like on the SAME team - is a no no.

I think it'd be in both of their best interests to kiss kiss and make up and be best friends, becuase with the way the economy is going and the way satelite teams are getting cut, declined, not being funded - Yamaha may not have their Tech 3 team in 2010.

No, but he hasn't disputed it either.
Get the wall up ,
CE should be happy, in one breath he's saying he's and in the next he's glad he wont have to butter his ego
and when was the last time we saw CE on a bike that could run race pace for full distance although that was mostly Michelins
there's an argument there that CE is better off without him.
