50 street legal write up for fiddys

this kit has everything you need:
baja designs crf50 kit
http://www.crfsonly.com/catalog/prod...oducts_id/1271
It is the easiest way. direct bolt-up, horn, signals, stator, everything, real easy install. Only problem is it cost $529.00
Bolt the kit on 529
get street tires 60
get insurance, 75.00/year progressive
get a state inspection, make sure you get a "green slip" (its actually white) from the inspection station at the time of inspection. cost for the green slip is 1.00, inspection 10.50
take your title, insurance card, green slip, texas 130u form, and a little cash. 6.25% of sale price + title and license fee (about 110.00 for everything)
They give you a plate on the spot.

If you have an electrical knowledge, and patience, you CAN build you own kit.
part numbers listed below are from Parts Unlimited unless stated otherwise. I ordered everything from P.U. catalog at Trumethodz(see my sig), you cant order from p/u direct, but all motorcycle shops can order from them. The regulator and switch are priced best at P.U. but the stator is priced best at ricky stator. The headlight is in stock at wal mart, but priced best on ebay(3.99).

1. switch, $27.95 12-050
2. stator, $147.95 2102-0027 , or $69.95 at ricky stator or get josh302 to build you one $50.00
3. regulator, 13.95, 2112-0090
4. light, 13.00 walmart qh-82yf , scew# 0 47286 48820 7,
5. tail light with brake light and fender 2010-0037 38.95
6. tires pirelli sl-26
7. horn use your imagination
8. brake light switch ?

The headlight switch comes with high/low beam and off switch, and a kill push button. The "kill" button has two wires, it just connects the two wires when depressed(so you can use this for a horn switch or even maybe a brake light switch).

about 150 for electrical parts.

Trumetodz will give you a MH discount if you order the parts from him.

I'll try to post a wire diagram later.

total costs:
110 courthouse
11.50 inspection station
75.00 yr insurance
150 electrical stuff (diy kit)

346.50 total for the do it yourself and josh302 stator.
This price is an approximate.

I think 10" wheels look odd on the Z50's unless they're MiniMX bikes. . .throw on a set of DOT street tires and be done with it IMO. If you're not a member of www.planetminis.com I would suggest signing up and reading in the CT70/Z50?JDMmonkeybikes section for anything you ever wanted to know about Z50's. . .Read this thread to find pics and vendors. Shoot me your number again gooze, I've been reading up on 8" tires myself

josh you are awesome. great write up!

question: can you get away with making a 2 stroke legal with this method?
like a 2 stroke 125 or 250? imo that would be S I C K !!!!

i dont know how safe it would be but i imagine with big enough displacement and/or sprocket kits you could at least get up to highway speeds. though i dont know if you would want to, though with street tires and maybe some suspension setup i dont see why not...lol...i think the real problem would be keeping the front wheel down while using the on-ramp!

tail bag + ratio rite cup + quart of 2 stroke oil = the GNARLIEST daily rider known to man.

so help me when i get out of this finacial slump that will be the 1st dream i make reality.

A state inspection sticker for a motorcycle is $14.50. Also, make sure whatever tires you buy are DOT stamped and do not have any labels like "Not for highway use", or "For off road use only" because those will not pass. The site doesn't have any pics that I can see but the wiring needs to have running lights, and selectable highbeams, and a license plate lamp as well. Also, don't forget side and rear reflectors. Ummmm I think that's it. I'm just tryin to save some headaches. Oh, make sure whatever lights you get are bright enough too. They need to be clearly visible at least 200ft away.

A legal 2-stroke daily rider would def be somethin to see but I think the noise would attract a lot of attention from the LEOs, even if it is completely tagged and you aren't runnin amok.

Josh,

Did you register it as a motorcycle or a a moped?
I thought there was a minimum cc that the bike had to be.
Just wondering.

I did mine as a motorcycle. Don't think it can be a moped. It has gears.
