not yet...looking for a used SV650

Smile Hello MotoHouston!!!

Ok, so I've been browsing and reading forums for a lil bit now and decided to introduce myself. I was referred to this site by a friend and from what I see there are some pretty cool people on here. I've been wanting a bike for years now, but always put it off for something else I need to get done. Yea, well theres always gonna be something else I need to spend my money on so screw it...I WANT A BIKE! I don't know how to ride a motorcycle...I've only been on the back. Don't get me confused with your lovely "curb monkeys' though.
So I'm takin the course at Awesome Cycles within the next 3 weeks. I've heard good things about it so I'm pretty excited. So I'm looking to buy a bike right after that. Interested in SV650, but we'll see what i can find. I'm not from Houston and majority of my friends with bikes live in Austin and Dallas so I'm looking forward to meeting some cool people to ride with in the near future.

Thanks...yea, I've been looking at gear...trying to decide on a jacket. Actually found an ICON textile jacket I like and planned on trying to get this weekend, but I've been reading stuff on here lately against the textile and pretty much saying leather is the only way to go...so I'm a little torn, but I need to figure it out soon.

ICON is generally considered not to be very good gear. It's more stylish than usefull.

Hmmm...any recommendations on brands I should look at then? I really have talked about jackets much with anyone...mainly just helmets.

Helmets are usually Shoei, Arai, Scorpion. Those are higher priced, but they are a lot more comfortable than, say, HJC.

A lot of people go with Joe Rocket, Dianese, Fieldshier, Alpinstar. Go to Cycle Gear and try a bunch on. See what fits best, what has better quality. Then buy online to save money.

Here is from the mouth of Godsuki:

Glad you were safe. On your next gear purchase I would exclude ICON. We've seen too many of their products fail miserably.

Textile is generally a one and done type deal. Yes, it is better than nothing, and if you go down it will ruin the jacket, thus needing another. Leather on the other hand is superior. It will survive multiple downs (usually) and will protect you MUCH better.

When looking for jackets inspect the quality of armour CE is good injected plastic is better (shoulder, elbow, and back) and the integrity of the stitching. I prefer A* but Joe Rocket and Dianese makes quality products.

Knee pads should also be a consideration. Some that will fit under jeans are just fine and inexpensive. If not riding pants are of course good as well.

Dress for the fall not the ride.

Here are some helpfull shopping links!!
