Newbie needs help!!

Hey whats up guys and girls. Quick question I'm new to the motorcycle world n I'm gonna get the new 250R (b4 any1 says it yeah i know get a 600 cuz I'm gonna get bored lol ) so I can learn on and then prolly later on move up but I would still keep the 250. My question is a new 1 is $5000 OTD but I found a used one going on like 2000 miles with a cracked fairing that they say happened when trying to park it ( or sumfin like that). They r selling it for $3500. I asked my motorcycle friends advice n he said buy new cuz u never know how they treated it and he said whenever a bike falls over it causes damage n sumfin about the oil mixing idk ??. Money isnt the issue I can get either 1 but if I can save $1500 for the same product basically should I get used or new?? Plus I said what if I get new and drop it myself whats the difference?? He says I won't drop it n that he doesnt want me to buy a bike full of problems but I dont think a crack is that bad but what do i know.... So any advice and hot biker girls numbers would be appreciated lol jk

Buy the used one. The Nijak 250's keep their value really well and are always in demand due to new riders wanting them. Most probably you WILL drop this bike at some point, so dropping the used one would be better than dropping your BRAND NEW shiney bike. Also, since you have already conceeded this is not your finish point, just a starter bike, might as well go cheap for the starter and use the saved $$ on what you really want.

Here is 2 good deals if there still for sale... If i could get basicly the same bike for less i would, The money you saved puts you that much ahead if you want to get a 600.

If you buy it used from an individual you still have to pay taxes when you register it. You can find the taxable value below. Also make sure you get the title signed front and back and have a 130-u form signed by the seller. Check the name on the title with the sellers ID.

Presumptive value:

Buy used.
If you like, bring the bike by BEFORE you buy it and we'll do a visual inspection and test drive at no charge to let you know if it's in good shape.

^^Haha! Beat me to it!

First bike? Buy used, because you will drop it. It's not a matter of 'IF', it's a matter of 'WHEN'. You won't be as sad when you drop a bike that already has some scratches on it.

Ninja 250's keep most of their value and 2000 miles is pretty low. If you have a mechanic you trust, have them check out the bike before you buy it. Motorcycles Unlimited will help you out, too; they are site sponsors.

Or just ask around on here. There are a few ppl who will be more than willing to help out a new rider.

Welcome to MH!

Oh, yeah. And nobody on here is going to tell you to buy a bigger bike. That's just silly.

I would go with buy the used one.

Ask: Why are they selling it.

Look for any heavy scratches/scars on the forks or side cases, handle bar ends etc. This would indicate it was acutaly put down while moving at a decent speed enough to cause possible unseen damage.

Check the Oil if it looks like anything other than oil - stay away - I would think it is probly fine. But if it looks muddy then it has water whipped through it -could be a major problem.

Ride the bike to be sure it tracks straight, check all lights including the brake and license plate light, and instrument lights, horn, anything that would cause it failing inspection even small item is reason to price negotiage

Don't get exited point out any down point, that makes you sound partly disinterested.

Consider offering them 75% of what they are asking.
Perhaps they will come down a bit.
Note: don't do this unless you are prepared to buy.
If they do come down take a minute to ponder their new price and then counter offer with a number half way between what you offered and their reduced price. (hard to argue with Ok I wil meet you half way.)

Good Luck

buy used, there are two kind of riders. ones that have gone down and ones that will go down. just be careful and don't let scare you away from two wheels.
