i've got almost 30k on my 06 fz1 as long as the maintenance has been done, plugs, oil changes, valve adj. i would say that's pretty low mileage for a 99

I just rolled 29512 tonight.

Bought my 02 in May 07 and put around 27k on it since weekend riding.

I missed the first valve adjustment at 7k or whatever... lol... Been doing all the other maintenance. And it runs strong.

I see no problem with those miles so long as the bike is taken care of.

Mileage is fine, the only "potential" problems with the 99s are the fuel system. They are NOTORIOUS for getting rust and some other copper colored mystery gunk that ends up in the inlet screen of the fuel pump. it is thought that the copper gunk is actually the lining they used to put in the fuel tanks back then. Basically, you will have to pull the fuel pump and injectors and clean the screens from time to time. I used to do it ever other oil change. Some also had occassional charging problems, that is usually the plug at either the stator or at the rectifier.

Honestly, if you have the opportunity to get a 02 or later, I would.... they have better ECMs, better charging system(the harness is the difference), better design intank fuel pump and heat treated shift forks.

I mean the 99s are cool as they are unrestricted and have a 220mph speedo but they are also a first year bike so they have some quirks.... My 2000 has been through all of the problems as well. Good luck!

No, 24K miles on a Busa with correct maintainence shouldn't be an issue IMO.
From memory there was a recall on that year (1999) relating to the cam chain tensioner so might be worth a check although I suspect if it wasn't done and was going to be a problem it would have showed up by now.

like any busa, be wary of the 2nd gear problem. test ride it and make sure it doesn't jump out of gear when getting on it in 2nd.

My 2002 had 23k miles when I sold it and never had any mechanical issues, other than chain and sprockets. I think it probably would have gone to 50k, even bing ridden hard.

I almost bought a 2001 with 75k+ highway miles. Rode like a champ. Seller backed out so I didn't buy. How much are you considering paying?

220 layover, yellow box and TRE will fix the 99-00 concerns.

+1

yeah expect tranny problems, especially on the 99-01s due to the weak shift forks....I think the 02 later had the heat treated forks. Doing the tranny isn't that big of a deal though... $300 for undercutting, $180 for new forks and maybe $50 for misc....ofcourse the time to pull the motor and split it. But once you undercut it, you will never have to mess with it again.

I love my 99, and yes they had a few issues, the fuel system issues, prolly long since cured, also the cam chain tensioner problems again I,m sure long time cured, otherwise it wouldnt be here today, and the second gear problem seems to be all years, however mine I have been racing it for 10 years now and have not damaged a gear or fork yet, lucky I guess, I would buy another one today with that mileage if in nice shape, mine did bent the valves way back in 99-2000 twice due to cam chain tensioner issues, but that just gave me the chance to tweek it and do a 5 angle valve job
