flipsideup, when you paint a tank, if you remove the gas cap and paint all the way to the inner ring, the gas and fumes have a tendency to separate the paint from the metal and it will start bubbling and continue around the cap and to the top of the tank. by painting to the cap you have a seal between the fumes and the paint. some people do things different but im pretty sure that is the thinking behind leaving it on. i remove them and paint around the lip but mask off right below it just to get the paint to roll in good, only thing with that is you can get some nice wrinkles in your paint if your not careful.

sorry squaddy, the paint is lookin good, bet you cant wait to get her together and hit the streets.

Ahhh... didn't know that. I was just asking, and thinking the same as far as how the paint will "roll in good". My bike's being painted right now (actually, I think he finished it today!), and when I went to visit him last week for the mock-up, he had the gas cap off, and had taped off the lip. I hope I don't have wrinkling problems.

Nevetheless, squoddy's paintjob looks awesome!
