i like the Euro and Aussie tiered licensing system. wonder how American and Euro riders would compare to each other. would make for a good study IMO.

Just my 2 cents... I took MSF and bought an old CBR F2... I rode that bike for about 8 months then bought my 07cbr 600rr. I would say it was a good decision to start with something older that doesn't cost much then upgrade.

oh man, don't bring up that subject because we will soon hear the ole "we the people" speech and the ole mainstay of "we don't want the government telling us what bike we can or cannot ride as a newbie....yayayayay.

Oh wait a minute. We are already have some folks in here telling us what bike we could and couldn't get as a newbie. government infiltrated already.

the only thing buying an older one is going to get you is more maintenance.

its probably been said but you should try one of these:

1. suzuki drz 400. dual sport, AWESOME trail bike and not bad on the street.
2. suzuki gs 500....if they still make that one. very forgiving intro bike
3. suzuki katana 600. still sporty but not a rocket.

prob. w/ Katana's, they're HEAVY and full on plastic, so if you drop it, it's gonna be $ to fix.

I'm a mom, but I'm not your mom. You're an adult- get whatever you want. When you lay it down, we'll flame you for sure, but that's life.

I told you this wasn't going to go well.
To the point, I hadn't ridden in about 10 years or so when I started again. I bought a new 2007 gixxer and a '01 Ninja 500. The Ninja was a piece of so I sold it and bought a 2006 Ninja 500. I rode it around until I decided I wanted to get a different bike. It took me about two weeks to get a buyer and I lost about $50 in the sale price after putting 4,000 miles on it in eight months.

My point is simply that you can get a lot of ridding experiance on the smaller bike. You still have to learn how to operate the bike on the roads with traffic. When the bike operation is second nature, your ready to move up if you want. I didn't like the 250's so I baught the 500. Nothing against the 250's, just too small for my size.

As I said before, good luck and keep the rubber side down...

Oh, to be fair- I should have stated that I started on a little 250 Nighthawk.

But, I'm short, and small, and can't reach the ground on taller bikes, and hadn't ever ridden before, and I don't give a **** what anybody thinks about me, so I was proud to ride my 250. Good luck.
