why dont you look into a 500 or a 650 rather than a 250? I started on a 650 and made plenty of mistakes that wouldve caused me to wreck on a 600ss

just suck up your pride by learning and taking it slow till you actually know how to ride.. and then buy that 600

I bought my first bike in June of last year and made a lot of rookie/impatient mistakes that I wouldn't want to see someone else make. I bought a 02 GSXR 750 and I had never ridden a motorcycle in my life, that was the first time I ever sat on one, I had the guy I bought it from teach me the basics is Northline mall parking lot, practiced for about 20 minutes then drove all the way home (Gulfgate) that night and I was on the freeway 3 days later with no mirrors. I was actually pressured into getting a 750 cuz my boy said a 600 was a " bike" lol. And people say its too powerful, but its only as powerful as you tell it to be, but with all that said I would reccommend starting on something small, I wish I had and don't overstep your boundaries like I did. I'm lucky and I never laid my bike down, but I was hit by a careless driver and now Im getting a 1000... Yeah, I know...

Hey shsur6,
You don't have to apologize for anything you have said, I am of the same opinion too.
In all places in society, you always have these people out there that have this idea that because they did something stupid in life that you are destined to do the same thing. ie. dumbass move on a bike. That is why I subscribe and believe in the Darwin ideology. If you can't ride and want to travel above 120mph, you are a dumbass. If you let your friends pressure you into doing something, you are a dumbass. If you are slow (since elementary) and have to be taught in stages, you are a dumbass. Everyone in the world is not like you.
So original poster, if your remember from school days (just pick one), whenever you were in Mathematics class, since it compares to complex operations just like on a bike. Whenever the teacher moved onto a new subject and he/she explained it and you got it right away. Then get a GSX600, you will be alright. If you were in one of the rows that said," huh???...I don't get that." Then get a GS250, you will get there someday. It is all in the genes according to Darwin. If you can't figure out that if you turn the throttle more it will get more out of control, then you have a problem.
Some people seem to think that you have ride for X number of years before you can ride a certain bike. But give them a GUN. Oh my!!!! I guess I need to start with a BB gun or airsoft before I get to a 44magnum or 357.

Just like a gun, the key to the power is in how you massage your HANDS and your itty bitty finger on the GO switch. It is not how big the gun/bike is. What is it called again,.....CONTROLLED EXPLOSION ????

So what do you call experience.... to be an advisor???

Dictionary says, "personal knowledge or practical wisdom gained from what one has observed, encountered, or undergone"

Stick to the topic. What do you call experience??

Advice is only given as a GUIDE for him to make a decision. Whereas you categorize someone and say since he is a newbie that he should ride a 250.

Experience does not have a time limit. You only have to have done it ONCE. You don't have to jump out of a plane 10 times to have experience. You don't have to been shot 10 times to have experience. Anyone seeking advice on a decision, you just give them all the facts and let them make THEIR OWN decisions. Yes, most newbies laydown/crash their bikes. Yes, some newbies never laydown/crash their bikes. In any cc range. But you don't line everyone up and put them in a category when you don't know their ability or mindset. And that is what you do.

And this whole thing about get small and trade up later, why don't we do it with other vehicles on the road. A CDL license. Do they have to drive a Ford F150 with a trailer behind before they get the keys to an 18wheeler as a newbie. C'mon now. How much experience do they need.
