so far i'm getting alot of supermoto responses..

i always liked the fact that if you dropped it.... so what, you really aren't going to pay out the like a sportbike.. maybe handle bars and new grips? it's a comforting feeling

that funny, i actually got pulled over on mine too...

on 242 in conroe going towards new caney doing a sit down in 4th at about 55-60 tops

no one was around but a red F150 about a thousand yards behind me...

i rode it about 2 miles and as i was coming up on the redlight at 1485 i sat it down just in case a cop was near that intersection...

all of a sudden i hear a siren (red truck was a constable)...

he was laughing when he got out... and his exact words "well, i had two thoughts going through my head as i was driving behind you... 1. you would run if i tried to pull you over and/or 2. you were about to put your blinker on and make the turn at the light on the back wheel"

he told me "if you weren't on the back wheel, i couldn't find anything illegal about what you were doing... you didn't swerve, you made the corners... it was impressive"

but sat and talked to me about the bike for a while... told me that wheelies were a jailable affense but since he already radioed it in he had to at least give me a ticket...
I told him not to make it too unreasonable cause the bike didn't go that fast lol
70-55 (not too bad... little Deferred and i was out)

cool cop, but honestly probably wouldn't have gotten away with it on a sportbike

MOTARDS FTW!

well, you will need to get a plate for it, and that can be a major hassle.

wheels and tires alone are about $1500

these are just rough guesses...

say $3000 for the bike (used)
$1500 for wheels and tires
$400 for licensing/titleing fees
$200 for lighting and whatnot

so right there you are a little over $5k... and I am pretty sure there is much more that has to be done than that...

I could always be wrong, but I would think it would be easier and maybe same price to just buy a OEM motard brand new with warranty and modify as needed over time...

true true, that's why i bought my wr250x brand new.. i have the 2 year unlimited mile warranty and the bike was perfect right off the floor.. like i said the ONLY thing i could complain about as far as that bike goes would have been the power.. i just needed alittle more.

not sure, but i think there is a 300cc kawi dirtbike that you can swap the piston and cylinder with.
Might give you that extra oomph your looking for.

kawi engine parts compatible with a yamaha? ? i don't know about that.. i could see that happen with a suzuki.. even then, that might throw off the stock fuel injection.. i think

would be cool though.. that would have probably done the trick

yeah, that won't work

the only thing I know is that some graphics/plastics/body stuff will swap out from a klx and a drz

sorry, I was thinking about the KLX-250 that was upgradeable to 300.
My bad.

Go ride one of these fools 400's.
You can alway upgrade those things if you want more power later.

no worries

yes, the 400 has tons of upgrades. I don't know from experience but I know there are some 440 big bore kits and maybe even a 490 (not sure)

Athena (no experience with them) seems to be a common name around the big bores for the drz

hmmmmmm...... very tempting.. i think the yamahas and the drz's are about the same prices aren't they? about $6,000 ish?

ya i gotta ride one of these.. i've yet to own a suzuki.. sounds like it might be a good one.. so i know it has an electric start. does it have a hot start button? or something relative to that.. they pretty reliable when it comes to starting up warm or cold?

I have never had a problem starting it...

if it's cold... just pull the choke all the way out for about 10 seconds during first crank... then push half way for about another 20 seconds

starts everytime... just needs to warm up a little longer on colder days... but never a problem..

sometimes, i just jump on it and take off in half choke for a mile or so then reach down and push it in
