MH Food Drive - Interested?

Some of you saw my MRE thread. It really brought to my attention just how bad off some families are right now. Azylum and I have decided to kick off a food drive. I don't agree with a lot of fundraisers, and I don't want anyone donating any money they worked hard for, but some of the emails I got really hit me. Right now we're just trying to see if anyone is interested in participating in this. Azylum volunteered to collect and organize all the goods for the SE side and I'll be doing the far North (Conroe, Willis, Huntsville), we'll need a "leader" for the other main areas (NW, NE, any others). Realistically the leader will need to determine a way to collect the goods, whether they use their house as a drop point or collect at M&G's, etc. My group here will be doing some minor soliciting() door to door, possibly setting up with some signs in a vacant lot, and just collecting from our own households. We are also working with a local Christian group to help raise more food. If anyone is interested in becoming a leader please PM me or post in here, if you think this is a bad idea please feel free to explain why, if you plan to help us by donating or collecting food let us know too. We want to make sure this is going to work before diving in head first. A lot of details still need to be panned out, this is just to gauge interest. Thanks!

To be clear, I'll be donating the cans. I wasn't placing an order.

Indeed. This is most certainly a worthy cause and one that I can personally identify with. Times are always tough for people, and right now times are even tougher. If any of you are interested in leading an area, please step forward, but please don't say "I may be intersted if yada yada yada". We need a definite leader that can handle gathering food and organizing deliveries. We do not have a date yet, this thread is strictly for guaging interest in who wants to take the reigns and lead some groups. As stated, I will be leading up the SE crew and I will be ironing out details in a future thread, as will any leaders of other areas. Thank you everyone who volunteers.

btw, please do not this thread.

If there's anyone in the Northwest area who wants to donate and is willing to meet in Tomball, PM me. I'll load up and take all the cans down to SHSU myself.

Good point, especially for here in Huntsville, I'm sure our local radio would give a shout out.

I'm down to help on the NW side I don't think I can organize it but I could help picking up or dropping off donations as well as donating. Let me know when exactly you'll want to start.

I will volunteer too. I live about a mile away from the big HEB at Blackhawk and Beltway 8.

I have a truck with a camper to haul food around too.

Love the idea.

Just an FYI - the local food banks have deals that allow them to buy a lot more food for the same $$ compared to individuals at the local grocery store. (Certain people excepted).

Are you planning on coordinating with the local food banks?
