530 to 520 conversion kit

Do you guy's think its a good idea to drop one tooth in the front, and swap to a RX-520 chain on a 2004 R1? Or is this set up to much for a R1? Have any of you had good luck with this set up?

What you need to do that for? Especially on an R1.

Its up to you. To drop one tooth in the front may help first gear down low on that bike. Though I have never ridden an R1 with that set up. I don't have much of an opinion on the gear.

The swap to 520 is not really worth it in my opinion unless you race. You do shorten the life of your chain and your sprocket as opposed to the 530 for not that much benefit. To be honest I barely felt anything after the conversion on an F3 and probably anything I did feel was mental.

I just did the conversion and it there was a noticable difference. The front wheel gets happy all the time and accelaration was amazing. But I will most likely go to stock chain next since a lot of peeps talk about the chain life. But I am really satisfied with it as of right now.

If you do go this route, IMO you should run steel sprockets(or hardened alum.) as you will get more life out of them. Not that it matters much to you, but I'm about to go 1 down in the front with a 530 conversion on my R6.

Jesse.
you could go one down on the front, but I'd stay with the stock 530 chain for chain life.

I went 1 down and 2 up on my bike. I stayed with the stock chain mainly because I didn't want to do the 520 conversion but also because the chain only had 1000 miles on it. It is alot more fun to ride now.

Thanks for the information, it sounds like one down in the front with the stock 530 chain is the ticket!
