Hello MH. Be Gentle...

I have always wanted a bike and during my research my friend of 18 years, Rob919/FlipSideUp told me about MotoHouston so I joined and lurked and learned. I took the MSF in October at Awesome Cycles (yes they are Awesome!) and bought a used 08 Yamaha FZ6.
So now I am building up my mileage by riding around the Heights/Memorial Drive area and working on my street riding skills. Love the FZ6. I read all about how it is not a good noob bike but being a bit older and I like to think more mature, I have felt pretty comfortable so far.
Don't read that as cocky. I have a very healthy respect for the power under my right hand. I always remember what my "Black Hat" instructor told me at the US Army Parachute School "The day you are not afraid is the day you stop jumping". I go ATGATT every time I get on the bike.

I hope to join a group ride some time down the road when I have built up a good mileage base.

Maybe I will be good enough to someday join Astars! I read that the "Forest Gnomes" are going Icon but my name is Joe so maybe I will start up a Joe Rocket club.

Anyway, be gentle on this noob if you see me posting on threads.

Joe

Welcome, we ride in the Memorial area often. PM me if ya wanna take a laid back cruise one day...

Heights is a nice place to ride bikes if you have one. Me and some buddies used to ride our Treks on the weekends, hit me up for that too (if you have a bike).

Yeah my bro and I ride our MTBs from 34th down to Heights and then take the bayou into Dtown and then back over to Memorial Park to grab some coffee at the runner's PP1 (Starbucks near MP) then back to the house. About 17 miles. When things warm up a bit, it will be a Tues/Thurs/Sat thing after work and Saturday morn.

My bro took the MSF with me and is searching for a moto but he is looking at a DS type like a KLR.

Fkna, badass route. Me and a buddy used to ride from his place on 8th and Oxford down to Heights/Waugh, over to W. Grey, then to Kirby and all the way down to the Bike Barn in the Village. Then we'd stop at the little ice house on White Oak and Studewood when we got back.

Too bad he doesn't live in Heights anymore!
