Idiot's a bit strong, everybody learns the same way, but yeah, you gotta expect cagers to get jealous and try to restore balance to the universe. In general, the closer I am to the house the more polite I am and if the guy's gonna be anywhere near me for a while or catch up to me afterwards (like at a flashing light) I don't take the chance. Parked on the HOV or on the freeway they're less likely to mess with you, but then they're more likely to pull out in front of you and you save less time by splitting anyway.

Tip for you. I don't EVER do that stuff unless I time it right and then jump into traffic right as it moves. That way they can get mad, but at least were moving. I can't tell you HOW many times I got honked at or people got angry at me when I moved through and then stopped. I'm ultra hesitant to cut over or split if I can't move ahead of the people I just split in front of. Not a good recipe with the literal pyschos people become behind the wheel of their cage. Feelings stop there. It's bad.

I'll lane split, ride the emergency lane, etc... BUT ALWAYS try and time any move when traffic moves, and don't EVER expect people to let you in. Expect 60% of people once they realize your going to move in a position in front of them to gun their engine and try and move ahead. It's life in Houston..

Please take my advice on this and it will go better for you. I'm a newb, but I learned this through a year of rain or shine commuting with my 250 as my only commuting transportation. Lane splitting is fine with me, cheating a bit ok. I'm a bit of a hooligan, but TIME IT. I think once I started doing that I cut almost 98% of people's reactions out.

Yup, the way I see it is that if you lane split and get back in with the flow of traffic without contributing to the hold up is fine. By being more like a ghost going by than other people that make it worse. But if you did that to get to the front of the line that of the lane that everyone is in line for (don't know if anyone will understand that) its not so ok. But I don't believe he should have tried to run you over, I would have given him a real reason to though if he tried that me.
