youve got to go in as an officer so basically you already need at least a bachelors degree or working on one in something. 1500 is enough to seal the deal with me. apparently ive got nothing going for me here. and ill get money for college and job security for at least for 4 years

If you intend to join up, always consult an experienced friend in the same department of the armed forces. my buddy gets something like 12k for each new med student recruuit he signs up. Don't go it alone. If you can just get with someone already in the marines, they will get a bonus for you signing up.

Do your research, don't be an idiot newb and just go the recruiting office. Base recruits are just that, base grunts. Guys like with you with skills can go in a few levels up and make pretty good jack.

Another option is the National Guard. I have a friend who makes 40k a year just doing his once a month gig, but he's a doctor. But he says most guys make like $500 a weekend to just go drill, or to do shooting competitions, or to take classes...whatever. I may be wrong, but I think you can move up to the marines from the national guard.

If nothing else, it's extra weekend pay.

Stop shooting yourself down. Be positive. You have a lot to give to the Marines, you should expect your fair share back from them.

Don't jump into another hobby too fast and get into another rut bro.. I say learn another language (ex. Spanish) to get a little extra pay when you join whichever department of the military. hey maybe you will be able to keep the bike if you can get them your signing bonus soon. Oh, and if you're already laid off (which sucks man), you have nothing to lose if you join the military!

I was reading that enlistments for 2008 were over goal and are projected to be again for 2009 just for this reason. People want job security.

I feel for ya man. I'm in a situation where I was actually going to join the Air Force but that all changed when a drunk hit me on my bike 3 days before I left for BMT.

If you lose the bike, **** it. You'll ride again when you get the money. Don't put yourself into more debt unless you absolutely have to.

Good luck, and be safe.
