rmz450 motor seized.

well i bought a 05 rmz about a year ago when i still rode moto regularly rode for a couple months doing basic maintenance then it blew up on on me. so i pushed it aside until i had some extra dough and time to fix it. well i got the hairbrane idea the other day to get some decent one piece leathers that fit and try a trackday on the drz. and if i like it wich i bet i will. i was planning on tarding out the rmz and making it strictly a track bike but keep my dirt wheels to play in the dirt everynow and then. so i gotta fix it and started tearing it down tonight. here are a few pics cause i felt like sharing

i'm looking now at a klx400, but i don't think that these will mount up...

after having my 426 tarded, i decided against the 250f for the luxury of electric start.

too bad 4-strokes motors aren't as cheap as the 2-strokers.

my buddy blew up his kawi 250f and had to spend a buttload of money on new valves, cyliner, piston but he also had JM racing do it for him so i know a good chunk of that was labor..

what caused the failure? valvetrain appears in place, crank and lower end look alright from what i can see. Looks like it might have broken a piston ring and chewed it alongside the cylinder and dropped compression. What exactly was "seized" and what was the root cause in your opinion?

rings are scareed and side of piston but the bottom end is a little ruff. it was locked up moves now but still ruff so i gotta rebuild the crank but i dont know wich failed first. the shavings from the cyclinder falling into the bottom end or the bottom end messindg up and causing the cylinder to mes up? kinda like wich came first the chicken or the egg looks like someone has bein in the motor before though.

was the piston intact? only the ring broke? hard to say without seeing the piston but. . .I'd be willing to bet the top end took a dump and the broken pieces made it into the crankcase. Take a look at the positive. . .your cases are intact and it looks rebuildable. Was there much metal in the oil when you drained it? any large pieces you found? If you weren't in BFE i would come by and lend a hand. . .I've been around enough "thumper" rebuilds to know a thing or two by now.

piston looks fine. besides that little bit of scarring. didnt drop a valve or jump time i really dont know what happened just a little bit of shavings in the oil. when i first took of the head i thought it was maybe somethin else cause it all looked fine
