Apologies to all that was not the intent of the post( well to almost all) the intent was we have spent quite a bit of time riding many different bikes and that probably left us in a unique position to comment(Marie worked for Texas's largest PowerSports dealer 2 years rides and races I raced many years) Sorry if We came across as arrogant because that wasn't the intent either.

Hmm can't see the html cause I'm on my blackberry but sounds pretty cool except for the wheelie crazed biker part, cause all it takes is some wheelie crazed to crash into someone and ruin it.

I'm with Scotsman. I didn't see any crass or condescendence in your first post at all. If someone were to read your first sentence fast, then I can easily see how they might see it as such. But read carefully, you were only offering your advise and opinion based on your own experiences, and not in comparison to others.

owned an '02 RC previously.
own a '08 848 currently.

The RC was a great learning tool for me. You have to muscle it around like others said because of it's extra weight(70 lbs. more than the 848), but it rewards you with rock solid stability. Once you get comfortable on them, you can really focus on your riding as the bike is soo predictable.
They're not for everyone, but thats what I alway dug about it. They have soo much character. Shame honda does'nt build bikes like these anymore.
Definetly a timeless classic with a rich racing history. Rossi still talks about how much he enjoyed endurance racing(and winning) aboard the mighty RC back in the day. I'm sure Colin Edwards and Nicky Hayden could probably say a few nice things as well seeing as it helped them secure their respective championships as well.

Anyways.
The 848 is the superior tool in the right hands, but for a guy like me who just rides for the enjoyment and not lap times, it's hard to pick a favorite.

I love my RC51 and enjoy it more than anything I have ever owned.
But I can't travel on it. It's a Toy to play with or go grind pegs. I did a 1000mile weekend on it a year ago never again! THats why we bought the Busa was for me to travel on but somehow it became Maries LSR bike
Back to the Iraan thing. In a town that is literally dying a slow death after five years the locals have figured out just how much money the Rally brings into the local economy and have a really new and improved attitude. And the Cops are VERY tolerant. Basically it's like Vegas
"What happens in the City park stay in the City Park"
we have a Top Speed wheelie contest every year and either the DPS or the Sheriff Radars the bikes and tells us the speeds to determine the winners! So far it's 90+mph. anyway this is turning into a great big threadjack on the RC51 thing I'll post another thread about the Rally soon.
and now back to your regularly scheduled RC51 stuff

that is how I took the first sentence. IF I was wrong, I apologize. when one capitalizes a word on al gore's intranet, it means to infer a stressed meaning to that word. He could have easily said "I own one and love/hate it".

anywho..... get an sp-2 IF you get one. you'll like it better. 03's were said to be the fastest year.(inside joke in the rc world)

There's a number of things that can be done about the heat issue and you are damned sure not likely to see a bunch of them up at PP1.

I agree though, both the Ducati 848 and the Aprilia Mille are probably more capable bikes, but not by a huge amount.

In the end, if YOU like the bike by all means get it.
Whats your opinion on SP1 or SP2?

What are the sp1 and sp2? I'm guessing they are different models or ones a revised version of the other. I noticed the 2006 model had a different paint scheme and it also stated more power and glitches from the earlier models were fixed. Can anyone elighten me on this.

I love riding mine. I commute almost daily on it with no problems. I just turned over 50K miles last week on her. The bike is heavy, dated, and uncomfortable, but I never get bored with it. I guess the biggest thing I love is the unique sound compared to the I4s. It still puts big smiles on my face every time I ride it and that matters more than having the latest and greatest. Honestly I'm surprised that I'm not sick of the bike yet. Like has been said, you'll have to ride one and see if it puts a smile on your face.

I had an '02 RC-51 for a while. With Yosh slip-ons the bike sounded and looked great. It was a fun bike to ride. However, the bike ran hot during the summer and was well down on power compared to my ZX-10R. There are mods to help with the bike running hot though. I recommend riding one before you buy because twins aren't for everyone. Here is a pic of mine.

It has been stated," The RC51 isn't for everyone,... unless you like Twins messing around between your legs..."

I say grab one while you can...
