Honda RC 51

What's everyones take on these bikes? Since the time I first seen one ive wanted it and I can't brake the urge to get one, I feel that after track season I'm gonna sell the new cbr and buy a 51 and with the extra money build it up. The only thing I'm worried about is I make impulse decisions like this all the time and a lot of them I regret. But the only thing I can think of with this it getting rid of a brand new bike for an older bike which I can live with.

i had one for almost 2 years.
1. heavy
2. dead ballz reliable
3. a modern 600 will give it a run for it's money
4. gets real hot.... but if strictly a track mule it should be fine.
5. really really poor fuel mileage, again not much issue on the track.
6. kinda top heavy, you'll have to man handle it
7. super forgiving and super stable

I am sure I'll think of more later

Wow I figured with the twin they would run like a spotted ape with the torque, also that's good to know about the handling I was under the impression it was a graceful bike and balanced

it is a great bike.... don't get me wrong. but a modern machine it ain't. technology left it way behind. the 848 is way lighter with the same HP rating as the rc51. would make a great track bike but it is a miserable street bike. if you like cruising the seawall.... it will leave you sitting on the side of the road over heating.

the torque is only there down low, in the upper rpms it drops off.

there is a known problem about the 5krpm ranges w vibrations/etc.

do a google search. I recommend riding something w a v-twin first. its not for everyone.

I never had a vibration problem. the 675 is way more buzzy/vibraty than the rc ever was. with a good exhaust and PC the rc will put down 130 hp at the wheel.

I love mine! It's a pig but it feels like nothing else. Love the twin.

I love the RC51, and have always wanted one as well.

However, if you're getting it for the track, I have heard they do not crash very well.

I liked mine.

Having owned one my impression is different than Cali's.
The bike screamed on top. It actually revved pretty quickly for a twin, almost as fast as an inline and it was dead smooth.

The bike is dead stable on the track and as Louis said, is very forgiving.
There's a number of things that can be done about the heat issue and you are damned sure not likely to see a bunch of them up at PP1.

I agree though, both the Ducati 848 and the Aprilia Mille are probably more capable bikes, but not by a huge amount.

In the end, if YOU like the bike by all means get it.
