vintage 50

Anyone sport a vintage 50? I've been wanting a 50 to play around on, and saw a mid 70's Honda trail 50 that looks in great shape for its age for 500 obo. I know there's not much I can do to the old 50's but I still thought it would be cool to sport a classic.

The things go up in price for old ones, I really want the ones with the chrome and padded tank but they are More than a brand new one.

I have one of those with a 110cc in it. You can stuff almost any Chinese Honda replica motor in it. Parts are available. But above 20MPH you won't really like it. Great for putting around, that's about it. Lifan makes a replica for about $750 that's street legal.

It's the only bike I know of that you can turn off the gas, run the carb empty, fold the bars, and stick it in a car trunk.

One of my younger brother's friends started a business where he would put his Monkey in your car, drive your drunk home, and ride to the next job. $40 or so per drunk driving save. Idea was funny, but never really took off.

correct, it's a 66 Econoline E-100 pickup. . .

Not sure if you ever visit www.planetminis.com but you should. Sign up over there and then visit the Z50,CT70, JDM monkeybike section and start reading, you'll be busy for days. There is a HUGE amount of aftermarket support for the old bikes, most of what comes out of Japan is very, very nice. Some of the builds on PM can get up to $5-$10 grand pretty quickly, most are homebuild retrorods and stunters.

i stand corrected I should have known better considering it matches my 1980 model CT70. i believe that is a Honda Z50J model, not the R. The Z50R was more of a "dirtbike" at the time and the Z50J model was a "leisure" motorcycle. The J had the headlight and taillight from the factory and could be plated for street use Tis also referred to as a monkeybike if i'm not mistaken.

Why do all the work just to sell it? i saw that CT on craigslist, I wouldn't dump any more money into it at the price it was listed IMO.

I got it for a good price enough to let me put some money in it and not worry about making a profit off of it
