Just to throw in my.02 (not that anybody asked)...

Some are suggesting that starting on a 250 is safer than some other displacement, but I disagree. A 250 is plenty fast enough to get you killed if you ride in an unsafe way.
I started on an 850 with no MSF and nobody to give me pointers. I took it easy, rode with the knowledge I was inexperienced and I did fine. So have others. I always told myself it will only go as fast as my right hand tells it to...

I don't want any more restrictions on what I can decide for myself. There's too many as it is.

well, i like the idea of tiered licensing to an extent. maybe up to a certain age??? i dunno, i just don't like the idea of some hot headed punk just wringing out a 1theezy with little to no experience. but that's just my opinion.

and i love that yammi! i'd rock it fo sho

small bikes with thin tires have to be 2 stroke.

like the yzf-r125 with a yz500 engine...

another reason we don't sell many 250's is the lack of options in the US. Many people get into sportbikes b/c of the image they portray(even if they won't admit it), if we had bikes like the one's posted in this thread, a 250cc wouldn't be so bad. Look at kawi's success with their new 250cc Ninja, they sell like hotcakes, and mostly b/c of their updated styling.

That Yammi is hellasweet! I woulda' loved to roll that instead of the Kawi 250 I started with.

I personally preferred the stepping stone from the 250 to a 600 to my current1000. It made me well-rounded, but I wouldn't have wanted anyone to TELL me I HAD to do it that way. That woulda' ticked me off.

i bet that thing destroys lives.

don't 2-strokes produce the same HP or close to the same HP as engines twice their size? don't have any experience but thats what i heard, and was always intrigued by the concept.

I started on a 250. The top out speed was 75-80. What did you start on?

Blessed has gotten Barbie (1989 VTR 250 - see Asylum's pic - that's it) up to 85. One of the guys has admitted 90 on it also. I have had it above 70. If they were availble in the US now they would be great sellers. Only available in the pacific rim now (gotta send to Japan for parts). New Kawi looks like the 650...can't tell them apart.
