I didn't know Metzler made slicks...

Good luck with those Metzlers at the track man, you're gonna need it.

'tis all good.

The only time we ran Metzlers at the track was at Cresson 4 years or so ago as a test tire. They lasted 2 hours and were shagged to the point you couldn't ride them any more, they had decent with grip for about 20 minutes (one session), from then on they slipped and slid around the track for the remainder of the time. We'd do a few laps and change the pressures/ try suspension changes/ ride height changes/ you name it, but couldn't get that tire to behave.

I don't know anyone that runs that tire at the track any more, racing or track days. Who's recommending them so highly?

Metzler makes a decent street tire, but the Pirelli side of the company is a MUCH better tire than the Metzler side.

FWIW, the Corsa 3's are a track day tire.
If you're running a race pace, they wll move about a bit.

I never cared much for the Racetecs.

If you can return the Metzlers, I would. You'll be disappointed for sure. What forums said they were good if you don't mind me asking?

Metzler makes a decent street tire, and a nice touring tire that just came out... that's as far as it goes.

I'll bet you can get hooked up from John at SCRC for a set of Pirelli or even better Bridgestone for what you paid or less for those Metzlers

Are they used or new?

If they're used, be ready to be disappointed. Not trying to be harsh man, it's just a "been there, done that" deal with experience with the brand.

I tell you what, I'll have some 003 or Bridgestone slicks ready for takeoff soon, I'll ditch 'em eary and you can have them free. I KNOW you'll be happy with them.

1slocbr,
The Metzler is not like the current production Pirelli, maybe 2-3 year old Pirelli....maybe. Think of it this way, it doesn't make any sense to produce a tire with the same materials and production cost and just stamp a different name on it and sell it for $50 less.
IMHO, the Metzler isn't much better than the DCIII, better, but not much. The Dragon Supercorsa Pro or Diablo Supercorsa as far as Pirelli goes, will be a MUCH better option. To tell you honestly unless your pushing for track records, I would not suggest slicks. I mean if you just want to run them because your curious about them, fine. For trackdays the DOT race tires are much more versitale.

i dont know 'bout that.
getting reaquainted with the track after a break and start on a questionable tire on a probably cold track would not be my choice.bridgestones FTW even if they are take-offs.

I'll see what I can do for you man, I'd hate for you to yardsale your bike because of the tires. If you had said you had some dunflops or michelins I never would have offered 'cause those tires are going to be decent tires... but the Metzler...

I'll do my best to hook you up, we have an event on February 20 and I think I can get a set with decent tread then. No promises, I'm not 100% sure I'll be riding that day, but I may still be able to wrangle a set of take-offs for you. Remind me before that weekend and I'll do my best

Man, just bad experience with them. They were an absolute waste of money, and I've never heard anyone else say anything good about the track tire.

The way John described the relationship with Metzler/ Pirelli is perfect.

I felt really dumb too 'cause we freakin' tested another set the following season with the same results :duh:

I think that at a slow pace they may be fine, but I'd be really leery of a used set with an unknown history. I'd also really closely scrutinize the year of manufacture (found on the side of the tire).

I'll see if I can get some of the team LSTD take-offs for you, they should have one or two sets laying around- I think Ronnie Hay has some too. I'd have some but I planned well last season and used everything up before I sold the bike.

I just searched too, I thought these were slicks, you have DOT Metzlers. I didn't think they made slicks...

It shows the K2 and K1 as DOT tires, they have sipes, right?
