5:45 UPDATE

Tim is out of surgery and in post op icu. He is awake and everything is still functional.

Doctor says 3 to 5 days in the hospital and then 3 to 4 months with a full neck brace. She suggested he sell the motorcycle and definitely no contact sports. Is a contact sport?

Best of luck to him! He's hellalucky that it's going so smooth (I guess if you would call that smooth... as opposed to being a lot worse) All those prayers are kicking in Amen.

What unit is he in? Neuro ICU or Shock trauma ICU? I'll be working tonight, may pop in and say hi.

I really don't know. I would assume Neuro because of the surgery, but ??? His full name is Timothy Reedy.

IF you do it right!!

Glad to hear. It took me a year to recover from fusion. If he takes it easy, he'll be good. What exactly did they end up fusing?

His Dad said he was pretty sure they planned to fuse C4 thru T1.

I know that is what you said was planned. I was hoping they didnt have to fuse that many, though. Every level loses more range of motion. I have 2 levels, but they are lumbar, so I only lost 15-20% ROM.

He could be on a vent breathing had he done damage to the cord. His life would change forever like mine. He is a very lucky man. I think the neck protection I wear on the quad would do all of us some good. Maybe they should just employ the technology on the helmets themselves.

Tuesday update

Just got off the phone with Tim. He sounds much better. He is still in ECU but will be moved to Jones Pavillion, Level 3 later today. He has been allowed to get up and walk and is sitting up for meals and such. Good progression.

He asked me to tell everyone thanks for their kind words and concern. He will get on and say hi when he gets internet access. Visitors are welcome.
