Cell Phone ?

OK, I've seen some of you guys talking about cell phones on here and had a question. When I'm looking at cell phones on ebay, I see some of them are "unlocked". What does unlocked mean?

Thanks, bmc...

Thanks poops.

If I get a phone off ebay, should I get one with a "sim" card or with out? The ones with out say I can use mine, but I don't know if I have one or not with my existing cell phone.

As you can see, I'm tech handicapped.

tmobile and cingular are gsm (they have sim cards) if you have either of these companies you have a sim card in your old phone.

So I should be able to remove a sim card from my cingular nokia 3320 and install it in a new motorola L6. Then all I would have to do is get it activated at Cingular right?

I really appreciate the help guys...

Send a message via AIM to linjy2
if u remove the battery and do not see a sim card, small rectangle flat thingy. then you do not use one. which mean no point in buying the phone u want.

if u do have a sim card, just pop it out of the old phone and put it in new one. power on and u are set. no need to activate. make sure the phone is unlocked because cingular will not unlock some random phone they dont carry or what not.

Cool thanks! I think I found the sim card. It was under the battery and behind a Chrome looking clip that held down a small rectangular card that said Cingular wireless on it with a bunch of numbers.

I really appreciate the insight guys...

yep thats it. then when you buy a new unlocked gsm phone. slide the card in and turn on the phone. you wont even need to go to cingular.
