The previous owner said he received a form from the Ins. co. stating there has never been a claim on the bike. The State of Texas indicated that it has been in a accident but could not give him a date, I think I will go to the courthouse with him next week to see what is going on because this stinks.

Dude, read the posts Dvlracer posted, have your friend call the number he posted in the very first response to you, and that should clear things up. Especially with the insurance statement.

You're making this a lot harder than it needs to be with threats/ suggestions of litigation and such.

I have had several salvage and clean title bikes. A salvage title bike isnt street legal while still "salvaged". It can be rebuilt with a green sheet you obtain for $1 over the normal inspection cost. The VTR-61 has to be filled out to complete the rebuild process. The tax office will give you a new plate on the spot and you will get a clean blue texas title in 2-4 weeks that states previous salvage damage in the remarks section.
None of that helps your buddy out if hes been mislead by the seller. Most of the time if a bike is registered to an INS co its due to them buying it back. They buy vehicles back that have been totaled and then they sell em. You can try contacting the INS co listed on the title and see if they can tell you what happened to the bike.

The title does not have the Ins.co. name on it, it just shows the owner and the lien holder and the date where the lien was released.

The previous owner told my friend tonight that it's not his problem about the title and he is not willing to help.

Is the registration out of date on the bike? If it is, makes me wonder if the original owner knew it was salvage because he couldn't get the registration renewed.

My friend got in touch with TXDOT in reguards to the title problem and they are showing a Kawasaki and not a Yamaha for the Vin# which is wrong so she told him it will take a couple of days to investigate the situation.

He'll just have to be patient with this. If the seller misrepresented the bike, then he'll have to take action on that unfortunately.

Cop friends are the easiest to get it done and what I always use. Or I have also heard that the DPS can run it.

You should have been patient and just used the information I posted. Sounds like your friend immediately assumed it was the seller trying to pull something on him and he managed to lose the seller's help. Can't say I wouldn't be reluctant to help if you started accusing me of something I didn't do. This whole thing would have been a lot easier if you just got in touch with the state via the info I told you.

He did call the number and was told that the bike was in an accident in 2007 but would not go any further with it because the title was not in his name.
