Title Problems

My friend just bought a bike last weekend and when he went to get the title transferred he was told that the system is showing that it is suppose to be a salvage on the bike and there was nothing they could do to correct it, he contacted the previous owner and was assured that there had never been any kind of damage or even a claim filed with the insurance, what I am asking if anyone knows any kind of recourse for this situation? My friend is very angry that he just plucked down 5,000.00 for something that cannot be registered and the courthouse cannot provide and dates or reason why's.

Tell him to speak with the regional office @ 713-681-6637

Their address is:

Houston, TX 77007

Good luck to him.

um, salvage title bikes are just like normal bikes, they can be registered and title, and ridden with no problems...who told you otherwise?

Sounds like he has the original title when a salvage title should have been issued. I've never dealt with a salvage title though, so I dunno

He bought a bike with a clean title and not a salvage title, he was given a form to get a salvage title, I told him he could possibly take this to small claims court if the previous owner will not buy it back.

Id tell the guy look, I bought this with the intent of it being a clean titled bike... And maybe the seller would give money back or work out a deal.

However, shame on him for not running the VIN prior to handing over the cash.

if that's the case, car fax has some type of guarantee, forgot what it is, but they guarantee their results with a lot of money lol

State isn't perfect, they may have mixed up their records. Why not call the number I gave you and go from there?

06 with 2500 miles sounds weird cause I do that in 2 months? factory tires? stock wheel weights? Look at the the small things for clues

he said when the vin# was entered into the courthouse computer then it showed the previous owner's name. I told my friend to take the case to small claims court and get it handled legally.

maybe somebody entered the salvage paperwork on the wrong bike. coulld be anything. was it an indivdual or company? as far as the low miles could be any reason. i bought a 96 gsxr this week only had 3600 miles and a clear title.

The question is how would you get the paper work changed if it was entered for the wrong bike. my friend said the previous owner has already spent the money that he made off the bike which he found out after asking for his money back. I see bikes for sale all the time with salvage titles but for alot less then the actual value so if a salvage title is issued on this bike then the value would drop in half. he was told that a form has to be filled out with the rebuilding information and then an inspection has to be performed to get the salvage title.
