Old Racer New to Houston

Hi Folks,

I'm shiny brand new to the USA, Texas and Houston and the MH forum as the title says, having landed here in recent months ex the UK.

I've not sat on a bike for 14 months as I've been working overseas until this final move here. Thats been a VERY painful thing for me, but I'm looking to getting back on a bike and doing some trackdays, possibly some racing, as well as looking out some minimoto, pocketbike or some equivalent racing for my son. He has done a couple of seasons on a Polini GP4 and enjoys it. I guess I shoud post in the mini section too?

So, if anyone has any tips on who's good with suspension, places to buy a race/track bike, minibike racing, bike racing and classes, engine tuners, tyre suppliers, race goods suppliers, leather repairers (thinking ahead), etc, then I'm all ears.

I'm finding the race Classes a bit complex here, but effectively want to buy a trackbike which I can dabble with in the odd race class. I've raced Supersport600 and Superstock 1000's nationally in the UK but dont necessarily want to take it so seriously now. It was almost a full time job before and I have one of those already.

Likewise if theres any events track/race events coming up that I could tag along too, to see how it works here that would be cool too.

Thanks for the welcome in advance, and heres to 2009!

Send a message via AIM to RoadracerNC
Welcome to the US and to Houston!

Plenty of tracks around here, with plenty of fast riders! Many of whom you'll find on this board. (pssst, I'm not one of them )

I'm sure you'll get a decent amount of replies on here before the day is done, hopefully answering any preliminary questions you might have.

Once again, welcome to the USofA.

Congrats on the move, looking forward to seeing you on the track!

Look for me at any LSTD or CMRA racing event, I'll be happy to introduce you around the paddock to a great racing family.

You'll enjoy the move- riding year 'round is a very nice thing to have!

Excellent thanks, looking forward to the weather. I've ridden in some bad stuff! Junior included, poor boy.

standard

I wont have a bike by the first dates but will come and see how it works/runs. Not sure if my license reverts to Novice or what, but we will see.

I started making a map of circuits in Texas. http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msa=0...cca9f8a1bb1c41 is that all of them?

Regarding your license, you can get your CMRA license and if you want to be an expert racer, you simply make that request to them. Depends on how long you've been racing and how long you've been expert in your organization to me personally- but my suspicion is that you'll be fine

Contact Nancy Selleck at nancy@cmraracing.com and the mboard at www.cmraracing.com for information. Nancy can answer anything you need to know about with the CMRA.

You got all of the major tracks and a couple of minor tracks on there. The two Houston area tracks are good because they're local and can help get back in to the swing of things.

You hit Hallett (Ok), Motor Sports Ranch (Cresson), Eagle's Canyon (near Denton), Oak Hill (near Henderson), Texas World (College Station), Mercedes Benz Sugar Land Road Course (Angleton), Katy Kart Track (for TMGP), No Problem Raceway (Louisiana), Grand Sport Speedway (South Houston), and that's about it.

CMRA races at Hallett, MSR, Eagle's Canyon, and Texas World. The others are good practice tracks, but don't have the elevation or technicality with elevation changes that the other tracks have- save TWS (Texas World Speedway) which is a superspeedway track.

welcome to Texas and MH. if you need a ride to the races (i'll be needing a pit crew for the first race next month )

just let me know, we can get together and you can ride with me, spend a day with LSTD at the trackday and then spend the next day with CMRA at the races!
