Race numbers

I am looking to make a template in CAD of my number plates and then have my numbers cut to fit the plate (and the CMRA rules) out of vinyl by a friend.

My question is if having the numbers skewed to fit the plate counts as stylized numbers or not?

Just to clarify, I want the numbers to be "form fit" to the plates taking into account the borders needed etc.

It is mainly a judgement call on the tech inspector if the numbers are too "stylized", but in general if the numbers are easily identifiable then I am sure they will be fine. The main reason for the numbers is for manual scorers can record your finishes. Remember these numbers have to be read from 20-50 feet away, and the bike may be traveling at an excess of 100 mph.

Just food for thought.

They can be cut to fit, but basically the font has to be block letters. John explained it well too.

If you have the numbers tilted and narrowed a bit to fit the plate, as long as they're block letters, they'll usually let that go without a hitch.

Any 5" number will work. Firemalt on this forum cuts vinyl, he has done some great work for me as well as Jody Hudson.

The CMRA also has em in the merchandising tent for 1$ a #. So if your #s get vetoed you have a plan B.
