R1, CBR1000, or GSXR-1000?

I am a horrible shopper, especially when the price tag reads above 10 grand. I've been mulling over my next bike purchase, and was almost sold on the Buell 1125R - but I started thinking about resale value and whatnot, so I don't think that'll be a good choice.

I've put 25k on an R6, and another 5k on an FZ-6, so I think I've put my time in on a 600cc, enough to warrant a move up to the liter bikes. Keep in mind my riding style, no track, primarily commute, no stunts, no 150mph runs down the freeway, etc..

I'd like to start a discussion on the three bikes listed - Not necessarily which is better, or who pwnz who at the track, but just pro's and con's of each.

Discuss, and thanks!

Britt

Happy New Year Britt!!!

You are definetely ready for a litre bike but as racerx stated the 750 is a really good bike. But for me I like the extra 250cc. The R1 is a goodlooking bike but it is just not the same caliber as the CBR or Gixxer. I would lean towards one of those. I actually think the 05/06 gixxer is one of the best Zuks ever made. The new 08 CBR is a really good bike too. If you are looking for a REALLY good looking bike a friend of mine is selling a REPSOL 07 CBR with only 800 miles on it. It will turn heads at sonic, starbucks or whereever the houston meets are.

If I was you I would sit on and if you could ride both bikes to see which one fits you better. And then choose from that because they are both good bikes.

Happy shopping!

thats cuz it's thinking outside the box vs following the trend, other then pure top end he's not gonna be any faster in the corners on 1k vs 750, prolly faster on a 750 (prolly faster yet on a 6).

U,r are prolly gonna be very happy with any of the bikes, I personally have a 07 gixxer 1000 and it is kick azz, great brakes, suspension, and power everywhere, but I,m sure the others do as well, prolly a matter of personal preference, If U can get a ride on each of them that would help in your decision, good luck

I have an '08 gsxr 1k and I like it. I've had an '08 R1 and an '06 CBR 1K in my garage while we were all performing routine maintenance. Both the R1 and CBR are a pain in the to work with in comparison to the gsxr. Taking the plastics on and off appeared to be the equivalent of working on a chinese puzzle, while you can removed the plastics on a gixxer with 4 screws per side.

I was also surprised to find that the R1 and CBR didn't have adjustable rear sets. That fine tuning is nice to have, although now I'm running vortex. The only area where the gsxr isn't up to snuff is the front master cylinder. While fine for the street, I think it leaves something to be desired for the track. The R1 with the stock brembo mc has a great feel.

I've sat on an 08 R1, and an 08 CBR. Haven't sat on a Gixxer yet. I guess I should have mentioned that I won't be getting a 2009 - I'll stick to the 08's so I can have the bargaining room.

i personally like the feel of the 08 CBR's vs the 08 GSXR's. but like they said, go sit on each and try to ride each to see what you like

man i agree with racerx here, the gsxr 750 is the best of both worlds. i've owned the r1 and i'm a big guy and it wasn't the most comfortable thing in the world for commuting. But i cant tell ya how good the new ones are because there isn't enough information to judge that yet.

But for the price tag your looking at i would honestly still suggest a gsxr 750. It's got plenty of power and is a very agile bike. The litre bikes are definately heavy weights in this discussion but again that's just my suggestion.

why does he need 750 cornering speed over 1k cornering speed for commuting? the OP says no track days, no high speed runs, just mainly commuting.

i still like the R1 for looks, but i've never ridden any of the choices above so i'm probably the last person to listen to.

For a commuter bike, why would anybody ride a GSXR, CBR, or R1? Definitely better choices for commuting.

Agreed - the FZ6 is a phenomenal commuter, 45-50mpg depending on riding style, and practically bulletproof. I've had no issues, and I'm the 2nd owner.

I'd just like to have a bigger bike. Besides, the FZ is actually my wife's.

I'm not trying to "look" like anything, I just like nice equipment. Why buy a 52" LCD when a smaller size will do the same job?

Regarding the Kawi suggestion - I've always heard they have headshake probs?
