Shiny Brand new to MH and US

Hi Folks,

I'm shiny brand new to the USA, Texas and Houston and the MH forum as the title says, having landed here in recent months ex the UK.

I've not sat on a bike for 14 months as I've been working overseas until this final move here. Thats been a VERY painful thing for me, but I'm looking to getting back on a bike and doing some trackdays, possibly some racing, as well as looking out some minimoto, pocketbike or some equivalent racing for my son. He has done a couple of seasons on a Polini GP4 and enjoys it.

So, if anyone has any tips on who's good with suspension, places to buy a race/track bike, minibike racing, bike racing and classes, engine tuners, tyre suppliers, race goods suppliers, leather repairers (thinking ahead), etc, then I'm all ears.

Likewise if theres any events track/race events coming up that I could tag along too, to see how it works here that would be cool too.

Thanks for the welcome in advance, and heres to 2009!

Welcome to the board, and Houston!

Theres a pretty good amount of track addicts here at MH, me included.
Most(myself included) will reccommend Motorcycles Unlimited as your one shop stop for all that you mentioned.
They race big bikes as well and have for a long time, and have helped put together quite a few minis.
Last time I was there, they had a few track ready SV's for sale as well.

Looks well worth a visit, and not a million miles from me, thanks.

I dont have one yet, and dont ride on the road anymore. I'm a bit confused on the race bike classes, so need to figure that out before I choose something. And then I dont know if my UK race license means I start off at one level, or go back to novice or whatever. Lots of questions!!

Now that you've properly introduced yourself, go to the "Racers Lounge" and ask. Those guys will set you straight and help you get started.

Don't knock it till you try it, however it has to be done very well or else it tastes like what it is.

you said tyre.

Anyway, welcome!!!

There's a LOT of folks that ride trackdays on the forums here and 5 or 6 tracks in a reasonable distance from houston, plus you can pick from 3 or 4 great trackday organizations that are all sponsors on MotoHouston.

Like someone said, the Racers Lounge forum is the best place to learn about that, as well as the forums dedicated to the trackday orgs.

don't forget to check the bikes for sale section on MH too!

cya at the track
