rough idle when hot

My bike (2008 Suzuki GSX650F - stock) is running terrible when hot.

Starts and runs great until it warms up.

But when it gets hot it surges at speed, it has a rough idle, and sounds a bit like it is missing. It is difficult to make a smooth takeoff from a stop in its current condition as I have to over rev it to make sure I have enough power. It starts fine even when hot.

It started Dec 20th during the ride down to UH. Didn't notice it the rest of the day. Christmas eve I toured the neighborhood looking at lights and waving to neighbors and kids (in Santa suit of course ) and it was difficult to ride with the idle so erratic. Since then it has been a constant problem.

I refilled the tank with 93 octane from Shell (previous tank was Valero 87) but that doesn't seem to have helped anything at all.

Any ideas?

I have had a fuel pump do that to me. Under light acceleration it worked ok most of the time but would surge off the line or moderate acceleration.

Time to use that warranty!

Thanks. I bought it used from a guy in North Texas. Which local Suzuki dealer would you recommend?

Fuel pump might also explain the mysterious CHEC light the other day. Rolled it out of the garage only got the CHEC message - never heard the pump come on. Checked everything in the manual, disconnected and reconnected the battery, still nothing. Rolled it back in the garage and tried again, turned it on and the pump came on and lights were fine. So I rolled it back out and it started right up...

I bought it used but yeah it has warranty till June 2009. I was hoping it would be something simple that I had just overlooked and could be fixed easily without taking it in.

man if I had a bike with warranty on it I wouldn't even think twice. I don't care if it was just the fuel switchy thingy set to off. I'd take that back and be like fix it bishes.

Actually a little hard to pick up from the video...

I dont want to overlook the obvious, but it is idling at the proper rpm, right?(see vin/emission sticker on the frame; usually around 1150-1200rpms.)

Oil indicator window shows proper amount.

The engine sounds sick to me too. But again this is only when its hot - when it is just starting up (cool) it runs fine, idles fine and sounds fine...

I will check the plugs tonight but probably just get it into a dealer tomorrow.

Are Suzuki dealers the only ones who handle Suzuki factory warranties?

Can anyone recommend a dealer close to The Woodlands area?

Cycle Shack north is the closest dealer.
Its in Conroe, go north on 45, and take the first exit past loop 336, its on the right, you cannot miss it.

As far as Suzuki factory warranty....well they would need to be factory authorized, so when you find a repair facility that is factory authorized that is NOT a dealer let me know!

^^^^^

So I took it in and BINGO that is what they found! They duplicated the problem. Replaced the gas and the plugs and problem is now cured.

Arrgghhh! This is something I could have fixed myself....

Oh well live and learn... like the time I paid a plumber cause my tub was draining slow and it was a hair clog....

Wow...just wow... somedays I really disappoint myself.

Thanks! I didn't realize "top tier" was a real thing just figured it was something oil companies used in advertising. Just changed who I buy gas from.

I think the neurons in my brain are cramping from all this learning today!
