Southwest Motorcross on Minis Today

http://www.swmxpark.com/

We had a fun afternoon riding my new CRF150F with some of the other golf course regulars. At SWMX you can ride for $10 on a pee wee track that is absolutely perfect for small CC four strokes. On the 150 a good rider can clear anything there. On my XR80 it was challenging, on my 150, perfect. For my first time jumping in 2+ years, and having only been to MX tracks a handful of times prior, it was just about perfect. four or five nice table tops to learn on and a bunch of smaller doubles to get the hang of air time. My 12 year old son was on a track for his first timer and he loved it, even cleared a couple of the really small doubles and one tabletop. I am sold. Open 7 days a week, so we may have to slip over after school once in a while. It's about 30 minutes from Downtown out there with no traffic.

Track was smooth, with a couple of guys on stock 50's running stunt tires. Jon and Nick made it look easy clearing everything with room to spare and a few tail whips and one legged moves to make me feel like a total noob.

I liked most that no one bothered us. A 9 year old kid took our money and provided waiver forms. No big deal, no drama, no wristgaurds or stamps to hassle with. He even played watchdog and when new riders hopped on the track he took keen notice and demanded his $10. Funny kid with a mohawk and some nice skills on Nick's "88" fiddy.

The big course is....big. I'd be afraid to tackle it at speed on a big bike with my limited skills, but it look fun and well maintained.

I will definitely be back there sooner than later, especially now that there are three of us with almost identical 150 Fs all living out on the SW side. Anyone else wanna join in the fun hit me up with a PM as I'm sure we'll be semi regulars out there soon.

Peter

ultimate is more fun on the 150s, 125s and bigger bikes and the berms are alot better and the track is loose. swmx is packed down like concrete. really good on street setup fiddies. the 150s and 125s can over jump everything on the mini track but the big track is now more fullsize motocross bike friendly

Congrats to you if you cleared the double in the middle of the track on a 150! I was having fun out there on 675TRPL's 230f, but couldn't get that one down. They really need to till the small track, or do something with the 'loose sand over concrete' style setup they have going on.

I missed the rest of this thread till now, oops. I went with nick and jon (Hondarider77 and GABRIEL) on Sunday with my 12 year old. It's actually "his" 150 if you ask him. Had a blast. I finally got the confidence to clear the big double and was eventually able to ride the whole track at good speed.

Went again Monday for an hour at lunch with the CRF 150 and XR80 and Kris (krazekris47) on his Buck Beasley's old TTR150 TMGP Motard and Buck's son's (Larry Myers, oh...no...wait, Tristan's) old TTR125 that Kris' girl Brooke picked up.

CRF 150 is perfect. TTR 125's with my fat are pretty suspension limited and cramped, but you can still clear everything if you don't mind getting a little rattled.

Kris took a video of me, doing the outside loop at the mini track just to give you guys an idea of what it's like. You can hear me say, "got three minutes" meaning, until we gotta jet! Nothing like a nooner dirt bike ride!

To get there take Hwy 59 about 4 miles past 99 / grand parkway / crabb river road. Turn left on hwy 36 for about 2 miles, then right on Wilson School Road. Track is on your right about 1 mile down. It is probably 25 - 27 minutes from PP1 at legal speeds. $10 to ride minis. Owner is a nice guy, regular CMRA racer, and probably knows half the regulars on the board.
