Sucks... but radar detectors don't lie. If found guilty, you're in for some heavy fines and possible suspensions.

i would DEFINATLY get a traffic lawyer. heard that david sprecher is a great one that gets most tickets dismissed.
If u go it alone, plead not guilty and go to court. after you LOSE it then appeal that. Have heard from a cop and a lawyer bud that after all that it goes into i think county or state or whatever but it is now in with all other kinds of stuff, and that they are so backlogged that they don't have the time to mess with a speeding ticket so it will be dismissed.
my 02 tho.

Well Nupe2L, I got pulled over on Dec. 31st, he was a state trooper. Saw me doing wheelies, and gave me a ticket for no motorcycle license. So I guess I got lucky, sort of. Who should I call?

suck it up

99 in a 30 is pretty high, you can kiss defensive driving goodbye. If you were clocked with a laser then just hire a traffic lawyer and hope for the best. With laser, the operator is pointing the beam directly at you and is ranging you while you are moving. Its pretty hard to mess up. Most traffic lawyers won't even go to trial on a laser case.

Radar is a different story. Although it is accurate, in heavy traffic it is useless until you have worked with it for a while. A radar beam is 21ft wide for every 100 ft of distance between you and the operator. So at 100 ft, the beam is covering almost three lanes of traffic. Most people think that the radar picks up the vehicle thats travelling the fastest, but its picks up whatever vehicle returns the most energy. If you're on a bike and going 99 mph and in the next lane is an 18 wheeler doing 80, the radar will most likey indicate the speed of the 18 wheeler b/c its bigger, has more metal and thus returns more energy. Ok back to your situation.

If you have an electronic ticket then most likely a traffic enforcement unit got you. Their whole livelihood is writing tix, going to all of their courts dates, and writing more tix. Most likely they won't miss their court date. I'm not sure if you can ask for deferred adjudication on a ticket like this, but if so that might be an option, and you dont need a traffic lawyer to get that. Did you get any other tix besides the speeding?

When riding in the city limits you really need to have some judgement in what you do. As sportbike riders you are gonna be looked at differently and treated differrently (i.e less lenient) than say a Harley rider. But we did it to ourselves. I've seen plenty of Harley riders haul over the speed limit. But then they're not doing stoppies or wheelies on Westheimer, running from the cops, and just generally up their bikes by doing dumb . If you wanna haul save that for the track.

does anyone know for sure that our local leos use lazer?
have read somewhere that lazer guns are not used in areas that can have fog. that fog throws off the lazer or something.

HPD Traffic enforcement units mainly use laser, although they do have radar in their cars. Most patrol units dont have laser or radar. Harris county uses mainly radar and all of their cars are equipped with it, I've seen them use laser as well. Radar is still the norm but as the prices of laser units come down, more agencies will be using them.

but good luck to you anyway.
