Question Communting Hours (Choose 8 or 9?)

Simple question. I like 8-5, but have an opportunity to choose 9-6pm. My commute is around 27 miles, from 249/Grant to Beltway & Richmond. Please tell me your opinion. Does the extra hour difference make or break the commute into a better one?

Ie, if I am leaving to get to work at 7am to be there at 8am, will I see a NOTICEABLE difference versus leaving at 8am to get there at 9am?

I say you're screwed during those hours, either way.

You're best bet would be to work 7-3. That way you could beat the heavy traffic by leaving before 6. I don't think those times will make any difference at all.

I agree. But the earlier the better between those hours, no matter how you cut it. 8-5 will be worse for the morning rush getting into work. 9-6 will be worse for the evening rush getting home.

I'd rather leave for home as close to 5 as possible (when I'm tired). You can always blame traffic for getting to work late. Then work a little double-time to get caught up. It takes away from your "work time", and not your "off time".

Now 10-7 makes the big difference, but that's not an option.

I had that option a while back and decided to go with the 9-6 day. It took me just as long to get downtown in the morning. It just sucked to have to work later and the traffic was just as bad, if not worse on the way home

Not sure about that area, but on my commute leaving by 6 or I am stuck in traffic. Doesn't really clear up til closer to 830-9ish

I don't start working until after 7 or so, but I usually leave early, around 6 at the latest. My drive is only 20-30 minutes if I leave early and beat all the traffic.
You need an earlier job not a later one.

Ask for 07 till 16, I was asked what times I wanted and I picked 730 to 1630. They wanted me to work 08-1700, so we meet in the middle. Try for earlier and if they are not willing, go for the later so u can get that little bit more sleep

I would say working later might be better some days but most of the time it's going to be about the same

i say earlier is better unless the route you take has heavy traffic @ 7 am, plus its quicker to get home when youre off.

I work 9-6 and traffic is MUCH better than when I have to be here at 8am or when I leave work at 5pm.

I've told my boss (and he's ok with it), I'll either work from 7-4 or 9-6. I won't work 8-5 if it's my choice b/c of the ridiculous traffic (caused by ridiculous drivers).
