Nothing much. Yea I found this thread, it seems you aren't the only one who has a beef with craigslist here.

Run the cashed checks and the address you sent them too, shouldn't be too hard to find the guy. Seems easy enough to me. Unless the address was fake and the checks were never cashed or maybe u just never sent monthly payments.

oh oh i found it! yea, it has nothing to do with it being on Craigslist. same thing could have happened from an ad anywhere, or a friend of a friend telling you about a bike for sale, etc.

dont blame CL.

If you would have went and actually xfered the title once you had the bike you might have found this out a little sooner.

Yep, me also.

So please go over a few things...

He met you somewhere other than his residence
He had the title, however the title was not in his name
Was the title signed?
The last name on the title didn't match his
You bought the bike with 1K down in the form of cash
No receipts for payments made
Made payments to the address on his ID, but he was moving

It wasn't well deserved by any means. However don't you think it adds up to become a disaster?

close to the same thing happened to me two weeks ago but i backed out of the deal, I met the guy at a store down the street from his "house" ,, two numbers were posted in the c-list ad, both guys had diff stories, one said the bike was "mint" and it was clearly not. anyways I met the guy at the store, and the guy had the title there with him but it wasnt in his name,,, i asked him if i could get the vin and he didnt have a problem with it,,, i ended up backing out of the deal because of the condition of the bike and all of the red flags

yeah there are tons of deals on craigslist you just have to know when to back out before it goes bad

people should read this sticky in the "bikes for sale" section before buying a used bike.

That was helpful when I was looking at bikes. I actually found this site from a link to that buyers guide.

It also helped that the title was in her name.
+1 i did the same thing!
