chain is on the left exhaust is on the right, it's all about weight balance. Gota get as close as possible.

I think because most people are right handed so easier to pivot the bike when you need to turn it around

think what he said ^^^ also most people are right handed, had their swords on the left side, easier to get on and off a horse from the left, older bikes also have their kickstarters on the right side for right handed people, so...that's a possibility?!

Except the horse doesn't lean, which is why bikes are easier to mount than horses, plus they always hold still and they're shorter and you don't have to get your foot into a stirrup... Now there's a Far Side cartoon: horse with a kickstand leaning to the left.
