MH Blood Bank???!!!?!?

Ok, here is an idea I had a while back and just wanted to see if anyone else thought it would be a good idea.

I was thinking that it might be a good idea to set up a forum for people who would be interested in donating blood to MH'ers if, forbid, the situation arose.
The idea would be to have an open forum discussing blood donation details and then have sub threads for each blood type. The sub threads would be souly for people signing up to be available should the situation present itself.
That way, if someone was in a wreck or just needed blood for some reason.....the mod of that forum could look and see that the person needed O+ blood. They could then open the O+ thread and call people who had volunteered to help out.
Another thing that would be helpful would be have a section in the thread for people to put contact info (i.e. phone number) incase it was a life or death emergency. That part of the thread would only be visible to the mod, but would be there so the mod would be able to call them instead of just PM
Just a thought..........

I'm going to vote no, sounds confusing and a PITA to keep track of. Do you know of a forum that already has this?

no, just something that popped into my head. Not sure if it would be a pain, but if it was used even once, then it would all be worth it IMO

The idea would be for this to be an open STICKY if it was created. I know there have been quite a few incidents recently were MH'ers have been in the hospital and needed some help. This would just be a way of centralizing the volunteers and giving it a little organization.

A forum or a sticky? Either way I think it's nearly impossible to manage such a forum/thread.

Thread, my bad..........

And, just curious but why would it be so hard to manage? People sign up if they want to.........something happens, rider goes down..........needs blood.........someone contacts mod who looks for someone with same blood type in the area that person is in hospital........PM's/calls a couple of the volunteers to see if they are still willing to give blood...........they say yes and show up to hospital to give blood
As far as the mod part of it, not too sure what you guys do, so I guess it may be difficult, but it might be worth a shot atleast...........could end up really helping someone oneday.
Either way, it was just an idea

Noble idea, I just don't think it would work as planned. The whole hidden contact info, having the mods track people down, etc. It's an idea, but it would need a lot of work to come to life. I'm moving this to the forum updates and feedback, you may get a better response there.

two suggestions:

1) add blood type to the profile page.
- from this we could do mass PMs to those with a selected blood type. Not sure if vB can do things like that but shouldn't be too hard to script.

2) contact the blood bank to set up an "MH account" should members have a need we could draw and donate to that.
- don't know what all is involved with that

This would take care of the idea with minimal day-to-day involvement from mods.

Number 2 is a cool idea, if they do things of that nature.

I say just make a thread and list peoples names and bloodtype. similar to a roll call for any ride. then maybe a mod will sticky it. no need to make multiple subforums for bloodtypes or anything.

just go to the houston blood center on la conch ln behind the reliant park and set up a MH account and then when a member donates and says its for MH you get credit on the MH tab as well as for yourself and immediate family then when its needed it can be pulled and the credit is taken from the MH account, it however still isn't "free" blood they still charge you for the testing and stuff but it is less expensive that way
