I spent a week there about a year ago.

I didn't care that much for the tail of the dragon. Too many people and it was so twisty with so many blind turns and so little runoff that I felt it wasn't worth it.
Me and my buddy preferred the Cherahala Skyway about 20 miles from the dragon.
50 miles of the smoothest, nicest 80mph sweepers you could hope for. With the prettiest scenery and nearly zero traffic. That's my kinda road.

Lived there for a year. Didn't ride at the time, but drove my GTI as a hobby on the weekend, so I know it fairly well. I agree... To be a safe rider, the Dragon isn't the cup of tea on a weekend, and enforcements has their eye there on random stings, so even those of us who are "moderate" can get bikes impounded etc if they are in their mood. TN State troopers officially suck when it comes to ANY leniency from what I've seen.

Cherohala.... MY FAVORITE. Nothing like watching the sunset 5000 ft up in the blue ridge mountains. There are some other great roads out there. Overall their road conditions are amazing smooth black asphalt. Very little poor roadway... even back country roads had some good pavement as a majority... WAY BETTER than texas backroads. :-)

I really didn't like it that much. The COPS have gotten horrible and the roads aren't really great for a sportbike. Either a shifter cart or supermotard is what I'd take if I went again....

I rode it this past May. I thought it was cool, but I'm no knee dragger.
People were blowing by me like I was parked (probably locals that know those twistys from front to back) I enjoyed all the roads getting to "The Dragon" huge, sweeping, smooth roads with beautiful scenery!
On the Dragon, you don't get to enjoy your surroundings, because you are paying so much attention to the road.
I was there for 5 days of riding & I saw very few cops.

spent 10 days at fontana village down the road. made maybe dozen passes. mostly during the week which was great. little to no traffic. weekends sucked tho.
I agree that there are places closer to go.
Go up to arkansas, there are some awesome roads up there, everywhere
was kinda cool getting killboy to take your pic tho.

I grew up in that region. Ridden that road more times than I can count. Awesome scenery, but there are many other roads in that area that are better, with fewer cops too

I should of taken my bike out to the Blue Ridge mountains or Deals Gap. I'm currently up here visiting my moms right outside of Chattanooga. I even brought my bike with me this time. I did a little bit of twisties the last three days. It was fun, a little chilly, wouldn't mind coming back in the summer.

I've been twice, for a week each time during the off season. That was 2 and 3 years ago, before the cops got so bad. I had a blast. It was the most fun I've had off the track.
