I use chain wax. It does not leave a visible white residue on the chain.

How?

I use the chain wax in the black and gold can. I don't remember what its called. Ride to heat the chain, then clean/lube, then WAIT before you ride or you'll sling it all off.

Good seeing you lastnight.

I used to use PJ1 Black Label but that is wayyyyy to messy and gets all over the place. Motul is much cleaner application.

WD-40 is all you need.
Keep it clean, adjusted and let the o-rings/internal lube do the rest. I've had bikes since 1980 and never had a single chain problem.

stick to an O-ring chain lubricant,
Motul
Repsol
PJ1
etc

clean first with WD40 and a rag then apply chainlube to the inside of the chain on both sides

Gear oil.

Make sure it's clean when applied. It's cheap, too.
