i went to both last summer. i stayed in cancun for 5 days with my friends.
then i just stopped in cozumel for a day with my family when we went on a cruise.

basically cancun is really developed hotels everywhere crazy clubs and stores. its packed with people and a little dirty in some parts.
cozumel is the new cancun. its getting more and more popular but its not as bad as cancun. its less packed and not as dirty. its a little more laid back but if you want to go out theres still clubs to go to.

i say go to cozumel.

cozumel over cancun, if you are just dying to go to one of those two. Not sure what your interests are, but there are far nicer places in Mexico to go IMO.

Spent my honeymoon there try to set your trip up as a all inclusive (all meals + all you can drink) I had a great time took a 1 hour trip to a time share they made me a hella offer but I have a time share in vegas. I got a free trip for 2 to the Mayan ruins for my time, normally cost 120.00 per person. Have fun but don't drink the water...

a bud goes to playa del carmen several times a year. He used to do the all inclusive by funjet but now does his own thing. for newbies he says the all inclusive is the way to go.

I have been to cancun twice, once with HS buds and once with my g/f, and to cozumel once with the fam. If its just you and your girlfriend I would diff hit up cozumel. Cozumel is more upscale and laid back, while Cancun is more for HS senior trips, and single ppl looking to get laid. Also, cozumel is raked like 3rd in the world for snorkeling/scuba diving. Honestly if I were you I would go to a travel agencey and talk to them, they know what they are talking about and will find you a good deal.

I went with a dive package and had a blast! Stayed at the playa del carmen as well I think. Pink hotel.. has a concrete walkway across the road straight to the beach if It is the same place. There was a girl there that did a CHEAP breakfast in the lobby with cereal and fresh squezed pammagranite juice! Boy that was nice and always settled well before a day of diving. Plenty of beach diving and definatly not very cluttered with american style shops like Ive heard Cancun is. So I would go for Cozumel for a REAL relaxation type vacation ( ie. cheap) and Cancun for a blowout! (ie. girls/springbreak) :icon_bigg

Do the cert here.. You need to be WELL taught! Its not something to take lightly and there are things you cant be taught in 30 minutes. You should be able to swim ONE mile without stopping in any style you choose. Thats part of the certification and its harder than you would think. After that they teach you everything you need to know. Its worth it in my opinion to do it here, Also you WILL need a dive buddy while diving! So either convince the little lady or get in a package that needs an extra diver!

http://www.discoverscuba.com/Scuba_C...a_courses.html

These are the people I trained, and traveled with. All very experienced and can help you with all aspects of the travel package. You can even rent equipment there including dive computers. Wonderful little things let me tell you!

well she has a little case of asthma which may prevent her from diving so, we are looking at alternatives to the diving,, plus if i dont, it'll save me about $1k... ( that is for absolutely everything tho )
