Red face Leaving for Iraq

Well it's official, I am going to work for KBR in Iraq. I believe I will be out of the country within the next 2 weeks or so. I don't know if I'll be able to get on MH from over there, so in case I can't; it's been great hanging out with ya'll in the short time that I was able to (Especially the skydive group, you know who you are). Hopefully I'll be able to regroup with everyone and continue riding in the near future.

In case anyone is wondering, I'm putting my 2004 YZF-R6 at a friends house that is going to take care of it for me while I'm gone so that it doesn't just sit in my garage collecting dust and possibly developing problems. If anyone is interested in maybe buying it from me instead, I am willing to negotiate some sort of price. Mind you that I am still paying on the bike, as I only got it in august. I don't have to get rid of it by any means and won't accept low ball offers.

Take care MH, hope to see all you again in the future

P.S
If you think you might be interested in the bike, PM me and I'll give you all of the details and pics of the bike - I chose not to include any of that in this thread so it wouldn't have to go in the for sale forum as that isn't the intent of this thread.

A couple of my friends work for them, they cut their pay for new employees just recently but it's still great money. Good luck and try to enjoy yourself!

Thanks

In all honesty, I can't wait to get over there. I know some parts of it are going to suck, but there is going to be a lot of cool stuff at the same time.

If you want, I can forward your resume to my HR contact. He's the one that got me in, I'm sure he can do the same for you.

yeah man, I bet you're all kinds of psyched and nervous. Did you have to agree to be willing to sleep on a cot for a given period of time? How long will you be there?

Yeah I'm psyched and a little nervous. I didn't have to "agree" or be "willing" to sleep on a cot per se. But they pretty much tell you to expect to be in a tent when you first arrive to your assignment. No one will force you to agree to it, or be willing, you'll just be sent home if you don't do it.

I'm planning on being there for as long as I can stomach it. 3 years would be ideal, but we'll just have to see what happens; could be more, could be less.

how long you going for? what will you be doing for kbr? i spent 15 months in afghanistan while i was in the army. definatly cool times, got to blow a lot of stuff up, along with some people stay safe over there man. the good and bad will come and go. but after its all said and done, itll be an experience you wont forget. most places have internet and phones availiable. ive been all over afghanistan, and even at the most down in the dirt joint over there they had something to contact home with. i dunno where youll be in iraq but, over in the stan' its hot a$$ summers and cold a$$ winters. again stay safe, and good luck.

I got offered a yob over there some time ago, but it sucked, apart from sleeping in tents, the pay was only 20k more a year to what I'm getting now, and t me, 20k ain't worth not seeing my boy and my wife every day.

in any way, good luck, I hope you are not married, don't have kids, and broke up with your girlfriend.

Not married, no kids, no girlfriend. All I've got to worry about back here really is my house, my bike and my dog. And those will all be taken care of. Not sure what kind of job you were offered when you were going, but I'll be making over six figs, with the first 96k tax free. But then again I'm not just going there because of the money, believe it or not, money comes second in terms of reasons why I'm going.
