Lawson was good after Kenny taught him to ride.

There has NEVER been a better rider than Agostini, but Rossi ranks right up there.
Fixed

Seriously, I agree with you about Valentino, I'm a big fan of his; however, Bayliss knows this bike, and is great at this track. If this were to happen, despite Vale's obvious talent and ability, I have a hard time believing that this will be a walk-off homer for him.

Exactly..........

Losail hasn't been a Rossi favorite.......and Bayliss has countless hours on the Duc.

If Rossi gets plenty of practice time (on the bike and at the track), he'll do fine. If not, Bayliss takes it since he won't have been out of the game (and off his bike) for long at all.

That will never happen. His time had better be spent working on the MotoGP Yamaha, not the WSBK grudge-match R1!

I'd LOVE to see Spies shock them both...................fasntasy, perhaps. But Spies is busting his developing his ride for a FULL season, where as these two are gonna be one weekend wonders in the series. Gonna be cool no doubt to see the best of the best all lined up together, Biaggi might pick that race to produce his vengance agains both of them. Gonna be sweet for sure, we need a count down clock somewhere for this one. Party at my place!!

The 2009 World Superbike Championship could begin with a bang if plans for an appearance by MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi and a return for retired WSBK Champion Troy Bayliss come to fruition.

According to a number of reports surfacing in Europe, the second round of the season at Losail, Qatar could play host to a remarkable race in which Rossi would ride a WSBK-spec Yamaha R1, while Bayliss would assume his place at Ducati Xerox for one round.

The match up is thought to have been born out of Rossi's claims that WSBK provides more enjoyable racing than MotoGP, something that is set to be reinforced in 2009 by the fact that 31 riders are already confirmed to the Superbike grid, compared to 19 for MotoGP.

According to Spanish publication Solo Moto, it also comes after Bayliss was the surprise winner of the Moto Sprint Rider of the Year award, an accolade normally reserved for Italian riders like Rossi.

Apparently frustrated to have been beaten by Bayliss, Rossi has been motivated to challenge the Aussie rider to a historic duel and reclaim his superiority.

What isn't clear is whether Rossi and Bayliss will go head-to-head or whether they will assume wild-card rides with the remainder of the WSBK field.

There has been no confirmation from either rider or team.

If it has 2 wheels, I'm going with Rossi. Remember Rossi has ridden production bikes before. FIM World Endurance, granted it has not ridden one in a while, but look how fast Biaggi was when he swapped over to the Suzuki squad. Rossi is way a way better rider than Biaggi IMHO. So I'm saying give Rossi a day maybe two on the track and he is there.
