would you buy???

hello all,

I have run across online motorcycle sellers. One on ebay motors seems to have a great reputation. 100% positive and they have been selling since '03.

I have found a bike or two on their site that has caught my attention. Would you buy a motorcycle over the internet?

What do you think? Too big of a risk or what? How do you know if a used bike is good?

TIA

Well I picked up my zx7 on ebay and my crf50, with no problems. The real issue is shipping, if you cant find it local. when I bought my Kawasaki I had no problems. but my honda took 4 months to get. you just have to be real careful

Thankz for the info... I am not to concern about shipping. I work for an airline so I will just fly there and ride back. Besides, this ebay store is only in Dallas.

Thankz for the input. two bikes and no problems.... cool

have someone in dallas that knows bikes go look at them before bidding on them or go up yourself. that way you know exactly what u are bidding on.

Okay here is the deal. I have rode motorcycles off and on for years; they have always been my friends bikes. I know almost nothing about motorcycles mechanics . I know cars but since I roll on two wheels now, I am a little more timid about ME doing work on the bike. With that being said, other than looking at a motorcycle (and saying she looks pretty) how can I tell if it is a good bike? As you know most place won't let you take her for a ride.

I just post a thread call bike shopping 101 to find out the do and don't when buying a used bike.

bring someone with u, that knows bikes to look it over. or call a few motorcycle shops up there and I am sure for 50-100 dollars they will check them out for you and talk to the guy selling it, ask him to ride it to the shop so u can have it checked out. if the bike is legit then he should have no problem doing so

Mr Hamm. As Brena said is your best bet if you cant get there yourself. However. The best way to tell If a bike is sound or not is to start it when it's dead cold. If a motor is in good shape and tuned properly it will start right up. If it hacks and coughs and sputters sorta like i do in the morning lol... You might need to check it closer. If a bike is hot and warmed up when you get there they are hiding somthing.. Also if you drive up to a persons house. Look at how they live. Nice cars, Clean garage, nice house usually means they got jack and take care of their stuff. If you see trophy's and parts of other bikes laying around. Well you know it's been raced. You see sir barks alot tied to a tree LOOK OUT!!! Oh and hello Brena. Not ignoring you.. Wes

I'm doing the same thing ad you with the internet shopping. There is a helpful sticky in the for sale section about this exact stuff. If I wasn't typing on my phone I would give you the link. Good luck!

I bought my cruiser on Ebay and let me tell ya, sending that $4500 certified check over the mail to some guy in Illinois was nerve racking. We talked on the phone and he gave me quite a bit of info on himself. Looking back now, he was very honest and a great guy. I also lucked out cause he had 0% feedback!

Ebay has a great vehicle purchase protection program to help keep you from getting screwed. Read over it and it should calm some of you anxiety.

Everyone else is right, if the bike is in Dallas, take the time to drive up and check it out. Besides, the day or two you spend on the drive will be worth the years you get out of your bike.

Good Luck...

I agree with all the above, most of the honest sellers will let you check it out, but remember if its an E-bay sale it has to be completed thru e-bay if not then you stand the chance of getting your e-bay account suspended and e-bay also has the right to sue and recover damages for the lost revenue from the sale
