Question Need your help...250r making a weird sound...

It's kind of hard to describe...it's like a whistling-type-of-squealing sound when riding. It stops as soon as I make a complete stop, but when riding it starts again...when rolling on the throttle you can barely hear it cause the engine is loud or working...but when you let go of the throttle and squeeze the clutch, you can hear it better.

Im not sure what it is...

Im totally lost...

The tank makes a high freq noise when it's bleeding pressure. Could that be it?

no that's not it...i know which one you are talking about but this isn't it...

cause even when it would do that tank noise, even if i stopped it would continue to make it...

but with this one it stops as soon as i make a complete stop....

If you hit the brakes does it change the sound... make it louder?

if so, a bearing.

Otherwise, check your chain. Do you lube it normally? Every 600 miles?

Also, front/rear and what speeds is it making the noise?
If you turn of the engine while riding(keeping clutch pulled in) does noise go away?

we need to figure out and isolate what area this noise is coming from(front/rear--braking/not.... or engine/trans)

the breather would continue to make noise when you come to a stop.

sounds drivetrain related cuz obviously the chain/wheels aren't moving when your at a stop. brakes can make noises too

No if i hit the brakes, you can hear it the same if not less...

Otherwise, check your chain. Do you lube it normally? Every 600 miles?

The last time it was lubed was when i did the 600 tune up...coulds that be it...i currently have 1500 miles on it...

It only makes the noise as soon as i start riding...when i stop completely noise stops.

also im assuming that if it sounds like wind then its just the airbox.

now if it actually sounds like a faint whistle it is most likely the piston just moving inside the cylinder...if you replaced the piston and put a wiseco in the bike it will do this occasionally as they dont have as tight of a tolerance inside the cylinder as a stock piston will.

again, if its an issue while riding, the wheels and drivetrain need to be checked. exhaust, intake leaks etc can be duplicated by revving engine. Unless there is a serious influx of air through the intake tunnels, it shouldnt whistle.

Not always recommended, but ride wo a helmet or put a different one on. Is your helmet whistling? ex400 or HJC?

i never thought about that...i will ride without a helmet..on a big empty parking lot and see if i can still hear it...

I just remember that i still have the 1 yr warranty on the bike, i think it ends on March of 09...i'll probably take it to the dealership...

those helmets have been known to make noise. The scorpion I have just started the whistle when I hit it just right. Almost sounds like someone trying to blow their bike horn from far away. I need to change or relube/expand the rubber seal around the visor.
