I'm having a major problem with my dealer.

Republic HD has had my bike in their collision shop for nearly 3 months now. For the past month and a half they've been telling me every week it'll be ready the next week. I pushed and pushed to have it ready for me just 2 weeks ago but when I got there it was a horrible mess.

All the bodywork was supposed to be painted but: the headlamp bezzle never got touched, the stripes on the tank had overspray, and the stripes on the tailfender were painted into a U shape with what looked like painters tape and not a stencil. The entire front end didn't even get looked at. It was still obviously out of alignment. They still had their marking paint on some parts they wanted to replace but insurance said no cus they were surface scratches. But, amazingly, they gave an ok to replace the rear sprocket for a minor surface scratch. The problem with that was the part they got from the factory was mis-machined and didn't fit in right. When the tech pulled it in after a final test-ride, while I was there, a flippin customer noticed the bolt on the shock mounts had ground into the sprocket they used.

So here's what I've gathered. They have no quality assurance. They suck at getting parts. (It took them 4 tries and 6 weeks to get my handlebars that got bent.) Their painters are awful. And they have no problem jerkin on peoples chains and lying to them. When I pointed out the U-shaped stripes they told me it was like that.

Unfortunately for me I payed the bill and took it home cus I was tired of not havin my bike and my truck is broken now. But I found a new set of wheels to use and brought my bike back to them last week and told them to fix it.

I'm absolutely disguisted with them. I got physically ill when I called yesterday to check on it cus they said they'd have it ready Tuesday. They told me they needed another week again. I've been going this whole time without my daily driver and have to get rides from friends and family to places.

I want to bring this to the owner of the dealership and let it be known what is going on. Has anybody had a similar experience? What kind of information do I need to bring together? How many people do I need to talk to? What should I be asking for? Is there anything I could even get from them?

I still have insurance working with them and my bike so I'm tied to their shop. I'd prefer them to fix their mistakes and overlooks anyway because they know more about what's going on. If I took it to another shop they wouldn't know what the other techs did and didn't do. I just want the owner to know what's going on and I feel I need some kind of compensation for them having my bike in their shop for 3 months while I pay for it.

Next time you need repair, take it to Patrick and crew at Motorcycles Unlimited. They will handle all of the insurance BS and your bike will look better than new when complete.

That's won't work too well. They hear that all day everyday from customers. The best you can do is wait. Sometimes it isn't always the fault of the shop. Depending on how bad it was damaged, it could take some time to get parts. Sometimes when we have issues where I work, it can take 8-12 weeks to get the part. Then if that isn't the bad part, it could be another 8-12 weeks. You can rush all you want but you can't make someone mfg the part rush cause you aren't the only customer.

call your insurance company. since they're the one flipping the bill, they want it done right. call them and tell them what's going on. they'll put pressure on the dealership, maybe even send out an adjuster to see what's going on, etc. they're on your side, and will work for you if you ask.

as for what's going on behind the scenes, talk to nick rosales. he's the dude that sold me my bike, and is nothing but honest. he's good buddies with all the service guys, so maybe he can give you some insight into why it's taking so long. PM me and i'll send you his number.

I don't know that they're on your side to that extent, but the insurance companies are the shop's bread and butter. If they can't get it right, the company will send their work to another shop . I think this and a letter to the manager would be the best approach. Be sure to post some pictures of their work and give them a link if possible, they won't want you showing off their bad work.

Good luck, thanks for the heads up!

Your insurance should be paying for for a rental car...maybe...

I would certainly complain to insurance carrier as well.

I wish I had a digi camera . . Yall shoulda seen the lines on the stripes they painted. If it's not right the next time I pick it up I'll def take pics with a disposable if I have to. I just wasn't prepared for this at all. I never thought an established dealership could do such poor work. It looked like my bike didn't go under a single quality check before they gave it to me, and they lied about so much.
